When I was 18 I told myself that I would never work for a commuter or as we now call them regional airline. The pay just not justify all the time and hard work. If you are getting burned out blow the commuter job and get at job flying corporate. Even if you are flying just a Navajo the schedule and benifits will put to shame anything that you are doing right now. Most companies are family oriented and if you are away from home they will usually let your wife come along or give you an airline ticket home so you can be with the family. With your time you should be able to land a good corporate job in the right seat of a nice jet and enjoy life.

Uhh...maybe if you put Colgan, Gulfstream, or Great Lakes in that "commuter" category, but I'd put the lifestyle and contract at XJT up against 85% of the corporate operations out there. The ones I wouldn't want to go up against are the Exxon's, IBM's, Pepsi's, etc. But Turbo, you'd be amazed at how far the contract/lifestyle have come at the more mature "regionals" such as Comair and XJT.

Although I agree that there has been a lot of improvement, there is still a long way to go, we are not getting the respect we deserve as a pilot group.

Get rid of the PFT and I TRUELY believe the industry will get better. Too late for The Russian and PCL_128 though. They've infested the industry

The only thing that will get rid of PFT is supply and demand, same goes for the low wages at the regional level.

Although my statement applies tothe whole regional industry I was refering to our company, since our new contract is being violated by the big wigs.

but I'd put the lifestyle and contract at XJT up against 85% of the corporate operations out there.

Really??? Come on... no... Really?

I know it's bait, but I couldn't resist:

Lequip, the next time you have to tongue-kiss you daddy while gently rubbing his balls for the extra allowance that has let or is letting you fly, just remember, you and others like you, aren't worth the steam off my sh!t mate.

Thats smelly steam, which upon contact seeps into the pores of your skin and fibers of your clothes and leaves a stangnant smell permanently.

You're probably the same type that would vote for a paycut in exchange for 'growth', bend over to take any reaming mgmt will give you, cross a picket line, etc.

Now that kinda sounds like you're talking about the 58% of CAL guys that voted yes on our POS contract '02... buncha wimps, drinking the Kool Ade. "Oh no, the sky is falling! We have to save the company!" Hope they're happy with this crap contract...

Yes, really. What is your level of knowledge on our new contract, signed 6 months ago? What is your level of knowledge on the lifestyle and atmosphere (notice I didn't solely focus on pay) at this company? And before you ask, I have a fairly good working knowledge about various corporate operations (many friends flying 135, 91, and fractional) and know that the YUM Brands, 3M's, CitiGroup's, IBM's, etc are NOT the norm out there as far as pay, benefits, and quality of operation. NBAA states that there are over 7000 companies in the US that own or operate corporate aircraft in some capacity. I'll go out on a limb and say that most are not the panacea that some might think they are - just like there are certain airlines out there that have horrible working conditions as well.

Basing one's viewpoint on how the commuters were 10-20 years ago is pointless given the dramatic changes that have occurred at some of these companies over the years. With that said, there are many good corporate operators that treat their pilots like valued employees and then there are the others that give them no hard days off, make them sleep in the airplane, yada yada.

At the end of the day, the beauty of this industry is that one man's trash is another man's treasure. Some people like the stability of hard days off and flying to the same places while other folks enjoy the pager and the prospects of being in Vail one day and Grand Forks the next. Didn't intend to turn this thread into a pissing contest...sorry.
