Expired Charts

I'm trying to make a wall mural in my office out of WAC's. Measured it out and I think the Eastern seaboard up to NY, and out to the Mississippi will fit. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about where to get some expired charts.
I tried calling the local pilots' shop, but they said that they send back all the old charts when they expire. I tried searching the web for them, but not much luck there either.
I doubt I'm the first pilot to want to do this, but i'm having trouble finding what I want...

Any ideas? (other than buying all the currernt ones :) )

You should be able to obtain the charts from the pilots shops, fbo's, charter departments, etc, etc, . I believe that once they are expired they just cut the top portion of the charts and ship that back. I do not think that I have heard of anyone shipping back the entire stock of plates/charts back. I use to get all the plates from the pilot shop at EFD to use on my flight sim and they would always give them to me since they would just be throwing them out.

Fbo's

I agree, the FBO is used to work for used to cut off the top portion and toss the rest into the trash. I would visit your local FBO's and ask them if they will set a few of them aside for you.

I know some CFI's that tried that a few years ago. They collected old charts from instructors and had room to put up a mural of approx. Chicago to Seattle. It was a fun project while it lasted, but then the walls were sheduled to be repainted at the airport, so we had to tear it down.

why is it that they always cut the heading info off expired charts? never did see why.

i think the fbo's/schools/etc turn the unsold ones in and get a partial/full refund. if the heading is cut off you cannot get this refund.
