Wow, recently Sonex, now Waco. Very sad! I can't imagine being an aircraft owner and your manufacturers disappears! I saw recently someone just taking delivery of a brand new Waco too!

The company had been purchased by an investment firm. All light aircraft manufacturers are already in what is essentially a cottage industry with small profit margins. Waco was catering to an even smaller niche in that market.

Unless a company like that is run by a person with a true passion for aviation whose sense of responsibility is primarily to their customers and employees, it is not likely to succeed. A CEO whose responsibility is necessarily to investors looking for significant gains is in an impossible situation.

The situation is not quite as I envisioned. According to Mr. Brown, the owner had no lack of passion. The passion seemed to get ahead of sound business decisions.
