I am wondering if anyone knows what the yearly or whatever operating cost is for an average VOR? I heard a rumor it was like $2 million a year!?!?! Does an NDB also have high operating costs?

-Thanks

It's not that much. The aquisition cost for a new VOR system is in that range. The annual operating costs vary depending on the age and modle of the system. Most average around 3-5 thousand a year. Repair costs on older systems can be very expensive due to the availbility of parts.

No, not at all. An NDB is pretty inexpensive to operate. I can't quote numbers but, it's a very simple device. It's just a simple radio transmitter. The FAA probably does some flight checking on NDB's, which adds to the cost of keeping one operational.

thanks for the responses....that number sounded kind of like a lot to me ;)
