A number of years back I saw a Graham Lee Newport biplane sporting a motorcycle plant. He said he left it in second gear all the time. Has anybody else tried this? Could you skip the reduction drive notion altogether by using a good remote transmission adaptation like Harley has, with more chain?

Seems like a good cheap ultralight plant.

Still fishing for ideas. I can't afford an aero engine. What about a 3000psi constant-displacement hydraulic pump driven by a 1000cc Suzuki with a prop boss bolted to a hydraulic motor? You could put the gas engine anywhere on the airframe. You could even reverse flow for those pesky 20-degree approaches. Gotta be a cheap way to do this!
