Thanks for the correction. Cut and paste error :) Obviously the recency of experience for the PIC and the equipment and inspection rules apply for the aircraft. But you don't need a clearance OR a flight plan right? I guess my point is, unless someone can make a case for it, IFR flight in IMC in class G when not on a Flight Plan and without a clearance is just ASKING for a Darwin Award.

Well, I'm not admittin' to anything here, but VFR into IMC doesn't really feel any different than IFR without a clearance in Class G, so you're probably right about the Darwin Award potential ;)
