McCain supports the troops? Uh-huh, and I’m busy saving the planet from an asteroid.
Bloviate (blō vē āt’): to discourse at length in a pompous or boastful manner. — American Heritage Dictionary, 2003 ed.

Could I have done five and a half years in a North Vietnamese POW prison? Though I doubt it, there’s no way to know. I didn’t have to.

But let’s say I did, and did. Would that alone have made of me a hero? Or should that have been a consequent part of the foundation underlying my presidential qualifications?

Yeah?

Exactly how? What is there about the two stations that are related?

“No, Senator; no way!”

One would, however, anticipate that, as a veteran, one of the planks he would stand front and center on would be support of those in our military, especially those who have borne the burden of the battle. Let’s open his voting record, just to find out.

Before I get to precisely what his demonstrated voting record is on support of our military, let’s take a peek at how he's voted on other issues . . . say, kids, for example.

The Children’s Defense Fund Action Council (a nonpartisan evaluator of congress), in 2007 gave you only a 10% rating, the very worst in the senate! Here’s what you voted against:
Increase funding for children with disabilities (S. Con. Res. 21)
Protect children from unsafe medications (S. 1082)
SCHIP Reauthorization (H.R. 976)
College Cost Reduction and Access Act (H.R. 2669)
SCHIP (H.R. 976 - motion to concur)
DREAM Act (S. 2205)
Funding child health and education (H.R. 3043)
Improving Head Start programs (H.R. 1429)

And per the Congressional Record, so far this session he has missed 57 percent of all senate votes and 80% of all relating to children.

Now here’s the part that the press refuses to report and that he does not want raised: the genuine level of demonstrated support of our military, by the votes! (The ones he voted “NO” on!) They’re highlighted in bold because he ought not to be allowed to dodge them, just because someone might have missed reading them.
September, 2007, McCain voted against the Webb amendment that would have provided all troops in Iraq have at least as much time home and in training as in theater. Please . . . No one try to use Senator McCain’s military record, his record of imprisonment in North Vietnam, his “concern” for America’s young, or his level of “support” for our uniformed fighting men and women in any fashion or way to demonstrate his suitability to be President of the United States. Loosely falling words and bloviation may persuade millions, but the unvarnished record cannot be spun. It’s in black and white, and available for any and all to investigate.

John McCain just is NOT the fellow being advertised. And if one of your relatives or associates attempts to tell you he is, give that person a copy of this, then tell them to just shut up; their ignorance is embarrassing you.

I'm not gonna break out my McCain pom-poms, but I am willing to bet that a lot of the "kiddie friendly" laws he voted against had some kind of "Bridge to nowhere" language/funding attached to it in the fine print.

I'm too lazy to research each of the laws you mentioned, so I cannot stand behind my claim. It's just a hunch. I am sure you will correct me though.

I'll call the guys at Google and have them throw a few extra coals on the fire since I am sure you will be looking to make a fool of me. Good luck.

I agree. There's always more to it than what we see Captain Dad posting, guaranteed. Don't judge a book by it's cover, and that is exactly what he is trying to do, look at the outside without getting into the specifics. I'm not buying it. McCain/Palin '08.

Only one way to know for sure. Why don't you give it a shot and report back to us with the results.

Number of sentences in John McCain's acceptance speech about his experience as a POW in Vietnam: 43.
Number of sentences about his 25 years in the House and Senate: 8.

And how many times did Obama talk about his drug use or his relationship with Wright, Ayers and Pfleger during his acceptance speech? McCain spent his youth serving his Country. Obama was, well doing other things.

43 lines most of us could never speak.

43 lines that protect him from any and all criticism.

I don't think so. I've said many, many times on this board that if someone chooses to run on their military record, they should have that record examined. So, by all means, examine McCain's record and criticize it. If you can. And that's the rub, isn't it?

It seems to me that the ones who want to examine McCain's military record don't have one of their own.

most of the VA issues he voted against were, bloated with worthless verbage/policy that had nothing to do with rehabilitaing a wounded vet. . .is he perfect? absolutely not. . . .Is there a better alternative to LEAD this country as Commander and Chief into the current state of international affairs running this race? Obama? Are you kidding me? Why dont you enlighten me on how Obama has voted on defense issues, and how is he going to take care of the military. . ?

I can't resist.

Obama- community orginizer=Rabble Raiser

McCain- A-4 pilot= Rubble Raiser

It's pretty funny that the GOP, who are making such a big deal about service, find so much joy in making fun of Obama's community service. Yet another instance of the hypocrisy characteristic of the GOP in this election.

I think it's pretty funny that dudes come on to the MILITARY forum to flame republicans and their service pride knowing damn well that military folks are mostly GOP/republicans.

Regardless of the election, Mccain has forgotten more about being a producitve citizen of the US than trolls like you will ever know. . .

Hillary in 2012! ! ! ! ! ! !

You really don't think BHO's "community service" compares to any military member's service, do you? Besides, you better do a little research into what BHO did for his so called community activism.

Barrak- learned arm twisting from Marxist sympathizers at Columbia and Harvard.

McCain- had arms twisted by Marxist sypathizers at hanoi Hilton.

Dad, What are you doing?????

Why are you on the military section?

Are you gonna tell us what a bunch of "baby killers" we are?

You are so far out of line. What are you, some sort of crusader?

Because if you want to serve a "cause" we can find you a recruiter.

Are you hear to tell us how we have been duped by the govt.

You are officially off my "OK guy" list.

You are a hateful person who knows nothing about the people in the military.

What kind of person are you to come to the military board a start stirring up crap about a fellow veteran of ours?

You have never walked in our shoes yet you judge us as second class citizens with kno knowledge of right and wrong?

God bless the men and woman of the military.

While you stand and talk sh!t, they put their lives and families on hold and go serve their country.

Unbelievable.

Obama= Saul Alinsky, commie rabble rouser, Noam chomsky, commie rabble rouser, Wright, racist rabble rouser, Pfluger, socialist rabble rouser, Ayers, unrepentent mad bomber. How can we go wrong voting for change with a guy like Obama? He knows the affects of Coke first hand and he knows the benefits of wealth redistribution. Don't for get Joe. 36 yrs in the Senate. Now there is no way the problems of this country can be pegged to him. He is change personified. Change is about the future and the future is hope, hope for change and Obama is change.

Its making the fun of the idea that being a community organizer is experience that would qualify one to be president. And if that is good enough experience, how is then someone who is a governor, not enough to be a VP?

Thats hypocrisy.

Interesting Update on WMDs

I have to credit MSNBC for reporting this, but this should have been on the CBS Evening News...

Subj: Interesting Update on WMD

On July 5, 2008, the Associated Press (AP) released a story titled:
Secret U.S. mission hauls uranium from Iraq. The opening paragraph is as follows:
The last major remnant of Saddam Hussein's nuclear program a huge stockpile of concentrated natural uranium reached a Canadian port Saturday to complete a secret U.S. operation that included a two week airlift from Baghdad and a ship voyage crossing two oceans.
See anything wrong with this picture? We have been hearing from the far-left for more than five years how,Bush lied. Somehow, that slogan loses its credibility now that 550 metric tons of Saddam's yellowcake, used for nuclear weapon enrichment, has been discovered and shipped to Canada for its new use as nuclear energy.
It appears that American troops found the 550 metric tons of u ranium in
2003 after invading Iraq. They had to sit on this information and the uranium itself, for fear of terrorists attempting to steal it. It was guarded and kept safe by our military in a 23,000-acre site with large sand beams surrounding the site.
This is vindication for the Bush administration, having been attacked mercilessly by the liberal media and the far-left pundits on the blogosphere. Now that it is proven that President Bush did not lie about Saddam's nuclear ambitions, one would think the mainstream media would report the story? Once the AP released the story, the mainstream media should have picked it up and broadcast it worldwide.
This never happened, due in large part I believe, to the fact that the mainstream media would have to admit they were wrong about Bush's war motives all along. Thankfully, the AP got it right when it said, "The removal of 550 metric tons of yellowcake, the seed mat erial for higher-grade nuclear enrichment was a significant step toward closing the books on Saddam's nuclear legacy.
Closing the book on Saddam's nuclear legacy? Did Saddam have a nuclear legacy after all? I thought Bush lied? As it turns out, the people who lied were Joe Wilson and his wife.
Valerie Plame engaged in a clear case of nepotism and convinced the CIA to send her husband on a fact finding mission in February 2002, seeking to determine if Saddam Hussein attempted to buy yellowcake from Niger.
The CIA and British intelligence believed Saddam contacted Niger for that purpose b ut needed proof.
During his trip to Niger, Wilson actually interviewed the former prime minister of Niger, Ibrahim Assane Mayaki. Mayaki told Wilson that in June of 1999, an Iraqi delegation expressed interest in "expanding commercial relations" for the purposes of purchasing yellowcake.
Wilson chose to overlook Mayaki's remarks and reported to the CIA that there was no evidence of Hussein wanting to purchase yellowcake from Niger.
However, with British intelligence insisting the claim was true, President Bush used that same claim in his State of the Union address in January of 2003.
Outraged by Bush's insistence that the claim was true, Wilson wrote an op-ed in the New York Times in the summer of 2003 slamming Bush.
Wilson did this in spite of the fact that Mayaki said Saddam did try to buy the yellowcake from Niger. The Senate Select Committee on Intelligence disagreed with Wilson and suppor ted Mayaki's claim. This meant nothing to Wilson who was opposed to the Iraq war and thus had ulterior motives in covering up the prime minister's statements.
It was a simple tactic really. If the far-left and their friends in the media could prove Bush lied about Husse in wanting to purchase yellowcake from Niger, it would undermine President Bush's credibility and give them more cause for asking what other lies he may have told.
Yet, the real lie came from Wilson, who interpreted his own meaning from the prime minister's statements and concluded all by himself that the claim of Saddam attempting to purchase yellowcake was "unequivocally wrong." Curiously, the CIA sat on this information and did not inform the CIA Director, who sided with Bush on the yellowcake claim. This was made public in a bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee report in July 2004.
Valerie Plame also engaged in her own lie campaign by spreading the notion that the Bush administration outed her as a CIA agent. Never mind that it was Richard Armitage -- no friend of the Bush administration -- who leaked Plame's identity to the press. Never mind that Plame had not been in the field as a CIA agent in some six years.
The truth is, due to their opposition to the war, Joe Wilson, Valerie Plame, the mainstream media and their left-wing friends on the blogosphere engaged in a propaganda campaign to undermine the Bush administration. Now that Saddam's uranium has been made public and is no longer a threat to the world, do you think these aforementioned parties will apologize and admit they were wrong? Don't count on it.
The rest of the American people should hear the truth about Saddam's uranium. It is up to you and me to inform them every chance we get.
As far as the anti-war crowd is concerned, the next time they say that, Bush lied, we should tell them to, "Have the yellowcake and eat it too".
