Just got based in LAX and wondering how the commute from Las Vegas to LAX would be? There is quite a few daily flights but I have no idea how booked they are since it is a popular destination???

No way I can afford to live in LA on first year F/O pay...and I really like the Hendersen/Vegas area so I am considering moving there to at least be closer.

Any suggestions???

Or any other tips on "desirable and affordable" places to move to be closer to the LA area with an easy commute? I lived in Redondo Beach for 6 months so I am somewhat familiar with the area. I am looking for a place with a lot of outdoor type activities.

thanks

You know, Barstow might be more of a place for you. Hour drive to either Vegas or LAX.

Henderson is nice, but not real cheap there either. Try North Las Vegas, might find some really good deals up there!

Pretty Easy Commute

I've done the Vegas/LAX commute off and on over the past couple of years and haven't had much trouble at all, and my airline is not in CASS. If you go to norev.net you can see that there are a ton of flights both ways. I've only gotten stuck and had to drive once. The basic rule is try not to fly TO Vegas Friday or TO LAX on Sunday. If you are in CASS I can't imagine it would be very hard at all. I rent a room in Henderson for 525 including util. in a new house w/ a fellow pilot, there are good deals to be had.

There are so many flights between the two cities, that you should have no problem at all.

I've jumped from LAS-LAX and BUR many times and have never had any problems.

As far as moving to Vegas, there are still plenty of good deals on real estate to be had. Prices have slid back quite a bit from the last couple years and many homes have been on the market a while with little to no interest. North LV still has some new homes in the 160-200K range.

I've heard North Vegas isn't that good of an area/unsafe???

Everytime I've been I stay around the Hendersen Area and it seemd nice...

I'm open to suggestions, I just don't know the area that well.

Sorry, that was sarcasm. I wouldn't move to Northtown.

In the past that was correct. NLV has cleaned up its act over the last year or so. Many new homes, business, and upgraded roads. It's no more or less safe than the rest of the valley.

Check out the South part of town as well. A lot of new homes going up off of Blue Diamond (SR160) between I-15 and Durango to the west. Mountains Edge is a beautiful area with homes in many different price ranges.

thanks guys,

guess i'll just have to jump out there and check out all the new areas and see what its like nowadays...oh darn, another trip to Vegas.:D

Sorry but you make sound like it's a 2 hr drive from L.A to Vegas. It' closer to 4 hrs. Plus the L.A traffic makes it loger.

That's what I was thinking too. I used to fly between HND and SNA regularly in a 172 and it usually took 2 hours in the air.

I just drove from LAX to LAS last week, started out at 3:30, didn't get to LV until 9:00. Utilizing the carpool lanes it still took me 2 hours to get past San Bernadino. Then 3+ hours from there.

Henderson is the place to live, right around Major and Burkholder.
