Are all these vacancies blocked for new hires? That is quite a bit of growth if it is! Congratulations guys! Thats awsome!

I still can't believe how junior EWR B756 CA went on this bid; to a 3/98 hire! Unreal...
That's 9 years. Why is that unreal? A 7 year WN 737 CA makes more than a CAL 777 pilot does. I suppose that's "unreal."

So, what is the difference between;
NYC 737 FO - 201 vacancies and
NYC 737 FO - 74 vacancies?

I can see varying fleet and domicile breakdowns, but the same fleet AND domicile breakdown?

Look at how junior the CA seat went on APC at Fedex and UPS, as well as the pay rate. Is CAL's award anything to write home about as far as hourly rate goes?

And before any dork rants about flying freight at night, what do you think a junior CA at CAL is going to be flying? All day turns to FL? Whatever.

what is the effective date of this bid? and how often does cal run these bids? how long before a newhire can get cle?

Effective date is 1 year from now(which means everyone is trained and IOE completed for their new position in 1 year)..We run them every 6 months..CLE FO slots are being assigned to newhires in training..

So after you interviewed at CAL how long before your rejection letter arrived?

Wow, you sure got sensitive about that one didn't you? I was just making the point how somebody thinks it "unreal" that a guy with a certain hire date in holding wide body CA at so few years at CAL.

Is CAL the only airline on the face of the planet?

And no, haven't applied at CAL. Have no desire. That will free up a spot for a guy like you.

I already work there.

Not sensitive, dude. Just figured that with the attitude you display you must have been passed over for a job. Kinda like how an ex-smoker hates smoking.

A 1998 hire, with a 4 year furlough in the middle, holding wide body captain is impressive. You mentioned that the pay ins't impressive. $139 - $180/hr in 8 years ain't too bad. If your making more than that at 8 years where you work, congratulations. Just go with it because it doesn't affect you. It only affects the people at the "only airline on the face of the planet".

Fed Ex and UPS pilots make more than me, but I don't care. Why are you so hung up on our pay?

Peace, out and Good luck.

Okay fellas, no need for you to be a$$holes or anything... my previous post was merely an observation from a 9 yr CAL guy surprised that 9 years could hold B756 CA seats. For CAL, that ain't bad. Did I reference SWA, UPS or FedEx in that post? Nope. Did I mention pay rates or night freight/redeyes? Nope.

Idiots.

go Diego go

Unreal that Wal-mart makes more money than Fedex and many other fine companies

Wow I would much rather work for Fedex, Nordstrom, Homedepot, Coca-Cola over your beloved walmart of the skies.

Unless something dramatic happens (terrorism/merger) the CAL August 2007 bid will have 2005 hires who will hold EWR B737 CA. CAL stopped hiring (furloughed) in 2001 and did not start up again until 2005. For many of us who were furloughed in 2001 (myself included) the recent movement is "unreal"--and reason to feel good about things for a change.

Not sure why you would have a problem with that jonjuan, but your "flightinfo" experience level indicates you may not yet be too familiar with the complexities and cyclical nature of the airline game. Good luck!

Dojet, I think your initial tone is what pissed most off, myself included. Your tone was such that screamed "Who gives a $hit as your contract sucks, I make more at XXX airline." That is all wonderful but, as someone already pointed out, we are operating under a concessionary contract at CAL that was signed in 2002 just 1 year after 9/11. Hop in a time machine, and other than SWA or FDX or UPS, tell me how rosy things were at any airline property in '02. Fact is that this contract was crammed down the CAL pilots' throat by some undesirable reps who have since left office. You can find the names of these folks on a "Master List" if you know what I mean. The landscape at CAL has changed. In an environment where we are recieving profit sharing checks, oil is somewhat stabilizing, and passenger loads higher than ever we are in a prime position to improve our current PWA by leaps and bounds. Combine this with the fact that most of the "cheap suits" that folded before are on the way out and new blood ready to fight are on their way in we are coming up on a momentous change in contract '08.

So point your finger all you want because it is quite clear to me that your $hit don't stink and you have a much larger..........shoe size than me! TIC!

Cheers

FYI:
You might want to check your time machine.

CAL Contract '02 was signed in '05.

Cheers.

Fair enough. Even in '05 the airline industry was in the same "rut" as it was in '02. All I know is that the contract was signed during the biggest downturn in the industry.

Cheers

I'm glad the CAL pilots are so hopeful about the future there. I hope CAL isn't disillusioned when it comes to their next contract expectations. Management has never "Opened the wallet" for it's pilots. Maybe this time will be different and they can set the bar for the rest of the airlines.

This go aroung nobody is hoping for them to open their wallets. Thank God that mindset, that's been around for 20+ years, is dying a rapid death. Every month they hire more guys who are more than ready to beat the money out out them this time. It's not personal, it's just business.

The SWA Captain also flies 50-60 legs per month vs the CAL 777 pilot flying 6-8 legs per month...

But the SWA Captain looks better a leather jacket, though.

Sincerely,

B. Franklin
