So will USAir target a new acquisition? And will DL and NW actually merge in the near future?

Thanks goodness, glad to see that USAirways will be unsuccessful!!!

I'm happy as hell the merger isn't going through, but as for your comment...go F yourself!!!

Wow. That was totally unexpected.

In other news, I heard the sun might rise in the east tomorrow.

No, LCC is out of the consolidation game for now, as is most of the industry, which might have been Parker's plan from the beginning.

There will be no NWA/DAL merger in the near future.

Where's Wsurf? Oh wait, he is looking for money to pay me. Didn't he bet me money this US thing would go through?

Bye Bye--General Lee

No NWA and DAL merger. That was a tidbit of info released by DAL people to suppress the hostile bid from US. There were never any talks between NWA and DAL.
As for the hostile bid from USAir, glad it didn't happen and it will be intresting to see how well USAir fares when DAL emerges from bankruptcy around April 25th.

Hey Doug Parker....suck it!

Maybe this will shut up all the know-it-alls who were posting even today that this will definitely go through. Then again, this is flightinfo. :)

Looks like OUR Delta is staying OUR Delta (for a while longer anyway)! Woo hoo!

What are you talking about?

Sorry, the first 5 times I read your post I read it as you being happy that US Airways will be unsuccessful (as a company in general, not specific to this takeover) My mistake.

Yes, I got a case of the Mondays...I really need to go the the same therapist as Peter. Either that or a new friggin' career.

Oh ok, gotcha...no problemo

:DdyBig D will emerge leaner and meaner! They will be just fine. I am happy to hear this news, the hostile takeover crap was a bit comical! I mean, they have not even attempted to clean up the big mess that they already have and yet want to bring on more.....Yeah, now THAT is a crack mgmnt team!
Now with this huge profit that US just posted, the pilots can actually get back some money!!

I guess you already forgot the PMs you sent me? Talk about a stalker... I think they are still in my archive, not opened.

And, you can bet I won't be flying any of those ASA flights into EWN. You and Kooter are safe. Those RJs will probably take some of your passengers with them. Hopefully your DH3s won't be downgraded to DH2s.

Bye Bye--General Lee

U.S. Air could still take part in airline-industry consolidation, according to analysts at Bear Stearns.
"We don't think the M&A story is over," analyst David Strine wrote in a note to investors. "There are other, more willing players -- e.g. United (UAUA : ual corp -- that could also be a potential partner for [U.S. Airways]."

Now I am really scared!!! Leaving for Lowe's right now for some deadbolts!!!

Don't worry, we already have 3 RJ flights a day in EWN to CLT!!!! Plus if you were flying domestic why in the hell would you wanna go to ATL!!!! Take CLT any day over that place on a domestic flight!!!

Delta creditors reject US Airways' hostile bid 01/31/2007

The official committee of unsecured creditors for Delta Air Lines Inc. today rejected the hostile takeover bid by US Airways Group Inc. and formally endorsed the Atlanta airline's plan to reorganize and exit from bankruptcy this spring as an independent company.

US Airways said in a statement today that it has withdrawn its offer, formally valued at $9.75 billion in cash and stock, which would have expired Thursday. The Tempe, Ariz., carrier had expressed a willingness to add another $1 billion in cash if the creditors committee agreed to demand that Delta open its finances to due diligence by US Airways, support the start of a federal antitrust review and petition the bankruptcy court for a 30-day postponement of the Feb. 7 hearing on Delta's restructuring plan.

A person familiar with the situation said a late-arising factor in the creditors committee's decision was its determination that the $1 billion offer in extra cash actually would have delivered all Delta creditors roughly $514 million. The sum would have come from the loans underwriting US Airways' offer, thus increasing the debt load on the proposed merger and lowering the equity portion due creditors by $486 million, this person said.
Meanwhile, the creditors committee made rapid progress in negotiations with Delta management in recent days that ensured the group would have a commanding hand in key governance issues once the airline exits from bankruptcy.

The new board of directors will consist of 11 members, including the chief executive and three from the current board, according to people familiar with the matter. These people said the creditors committee will appoint 10 of the directors, a concession that the committee viewed as perhaps the most critical. The committee plans to install people who embrace consolidation as a strategic option and had made clear to Delta in recent days that this issue was a condition of gaining its approval for the standalone plan.

The new board will hire the next chief executive, as current CEO Gerald Grinstein intends to retire after the company emerges from court protection.
People familiar with the matter say an accord was reached on executive compensation, in which senior management will receive 2.6% of new company shares. An additional 1.4% will be reserved for executives hired in the future, these people say. The plan is expected to cover about 1,000 Delta managers, they say. A separate package will go to nonmanagement, nonpilot employees.

I thought "Deep Throat" died, but obviously they only retired from Republican Party politics and they now are a Delta creditor.
