Currently Allegheny and Piedmont operate Dash 8s for USAirways. I've noticed over the past few months, the number of -100/200s have been declining. They are now down to around 60 or so. Does USAirways plan on retiring these planes? I know some of the 100s are from the late 80's. Also, isn't Allegheny supposed to be consolodating with Piedmont soon? Does anybody have any idea of the future of these two airlines, and their aircraft? Thank you.

2 of em are currently out in PHX:D Not sure if they are outta the shop yet.. I am sure the Mesa guys can touch on this better than I can.

Everything is going to depend on whether or not Airways can stop the ship from sinking beyond a point of being able to be saved.

interesting times ahead but I would say that it doesn't look overly promising.

USAirways Express operators Piedmont and Allegheny are scheduled to merge as of July 1, according to Piedmont management.

When I worked at Piedmont, they began returning the Dash 8's whose leases could not be renegotiated at a lower rate. Lately I have seen both Allegheny Dash 8-100's and Piedmont Dash 8-100's/200's at facilities in St. Louis and Las Vegas in various stages of teardown. I have also seen one of Piedmont's old 100's in Winston-Salem, painted all white (converted into a freight dog perhaps?).

I know first hand pilots (especially junior ones) are trying to get away from those places ASAP. The quality of life at Piedmont has been near-suicidal at best. Even some very senior guys are just getting fed up and quittting. It's a shame - it was a good job.

Siegal had said at one point that his intentions were to rid US Airways of all turboprops... although he also said that he had no plans in the future to get Piedmont jets.... but that was him and now he is working for Gate Gourmet or some place like that... not sure what the new head man is looking at doing with the fleet...
