Looks like many Airbus 330 postions open for returning furloughees on the latest bid award. Lots of 757 767 positions as well. Is this all for attrition or is this all due to growth? They will be hiring of the street pretty soon if this age 65 does not happen until a few more years. Talked to some senior furloughees which will be coming back on this latest recall for 130 more positions. When it rains it pours.

Just ran through the bid, rough count of the vacancies...

737 PIT 1
319 CLT 2
737 CLT 3
319 DCA 16
737 DCA 12
330 PHL 15
76I PHL 15
76D PHL 19
737 PHL 28
319 PHL 54
190 PHL 21
319 LGA 21
319 BOS 9

Oh, and well it shows they are available, it's not truely available, unless you draw the straw that US decides to put those positions in your class. You show up for indoc, and they have X amount of positions posted, Whatever they need for THAT class....and that's your choice. You don't get to choose out of the total vacancies available....

It's nice to finally see some positive trends in the business. Good luck to everyone at USAirways.

Um, isn't that 226 vacancies? I guess that includes the slots that have yet to be filled from the last bid? Is PHL really that bad or are FOs just retiring off the widebodies and everyone else is comfy where they are?

Might be, I didn't add it up. I just went through the bid, and counted the numbers that had no names next to it for each position. As the last bid is seeing recall classes through June 7th, I would imagine that includes those positions not yet filled. So if you take out 3 classes of 20 apeice??? 60 pilots, left from prev. bid. you get 166. so sounds about right. Now if they can just put the 330 positions in the May 21st. class.

I saw a grievance about the fact that they are not letting furloughees bid on whatever is availiable in the bid awards. I think it sucks that they only choose a few for your indoc class and thats it. I might come back for the A330 so I could fly with my Dad at retirement in Sept. or even something in CLT but I dont want to come back and only be offered something in Bos, LGA or phil on reserve. Anybody in class now? How is it going?

Certainly seems like they could easily fill the specific slots as they make the calls. A senior pilot might have to wait for a later class to take, say, the A330, but that's a choice they should be allowed IMO.

I hear ya man! I told Charmane that I would prefer to come back only for A330 Captain positions out of PHL from PHL-Rome... oh, and every other Tuedsay departures.

She said she'd get back to me.

Why are there so many vacancies on the A330 or 767(I) out of PHL? I guess the 737 FOs really enjoy flying those delapitdated non-EFIS 300s and 400s so much... Surprising that there are so many 319 vacancies as well throughout the system (excluding AWA side).

I know that a lot of USAirways furloughees went over to Netjets. How many are expected to return to USAirways (what percentage would you guess)? What about JetBlue pilots from USAirways - how many will likely return? Any guesses or estimates????????????

A certain seniority portion of the U Seniority list had the choice of being a junior captain on a narrow body and doing the reserve thing or just saying scrw it and bidding F/O on a widebody. Some are obviously going for the cash again on a narrowbody as the PIC.

When spots open up they are filled by newhires (if available) because they cost less for the company. As soon as the 18 month equipment freeze is over, the junior pilot gets booted off and seniority rules again... till the next furlough.

Understood. What about furloughed USAirways pilots at Netjets? How many do you think (estimate) will actually return to USAirways? Is there a set time limit for a decision?

Exactly what happened in 1999.

Anyone who would leave Jet Blue or Netjets to return to USAir needs to have their head examined. U will be recalling right up until they furlough again. U ALWAYS trails the rest of the industry in recalling and hiring. USAir has pilots with 1989 hire dates that have less than 4 YEARS of active service. I would hope most of those guys would not give USAir a THIRD chance.

Also, don't expect Chug A Lug Doug to help out. He is a numbers man (CHEAP) and will run the airline with as little staff as possible, even if it pisses off some customers. And DON"T expect to see growth at USAir. Doug has said many times that their is still too much capacity in the industry. (Read, it ain't gonna be USAir that adds more routes or planes, sans some intl routes).
All movement at U will be due to retirements, and thanks to the ME generation that will stop in a few years also. Oh yeah, Doug still has a h@rd on to merge with someone, anyone with a good job that is considering returning to U should think long and hard about what will happen to them if Doug finds a merger partner, while you are stuck at the bottom of the seniority list.

I have first hand knowledge of how that works!

D@MN where is my valium!!!!!!

The more it costs PSA to keep us the better. More incentive to release us all early..
