Picked up on the airshow circuit, supported by sources in P'cola. The "Blue angles" were going to fly their scheduled airshow events this summer. The cost is minimal because all fuel, hotels, etc are picked up by the air show promoters. The Navy believes that the US public is more and more separated from the military and going to non-militarty communities is an important mission. They not only fly at their assigned cites, they visit schools hold seminars, and provide a much greater exposure to the country of who is the Navy. Anyway the Birds had cancelled their schedule, and a certain high ranking USAF General thought it would look bad if the "Blues" flew and 'Birds" did not", so DOD, not the Navy canceled the "Blues". Talk about school boy antics!!

That's too bad. Politics at it's finest. We will miss them for sure at Sea Fair this year. At least we still have the Hydros!

This desicion was made in Virginia Beach, USAF had nothing to do with it. It was a complete money desicion and what the USAF was doing was never even brought up when the desicion took place.

So 10 years ago when the government spent over a trillion less per year than today, they had money for ATC and the Blues and White House tours. Today, because of an insignificant budget non-cut, they are scraping the bottom of the barrel?

That may be right, but is was directed from DC. The "Blues" elected to go along for solidarity this year. But are planning a full schedule next year.

The team is hoping for a one year extension due to this years circumstances; that's according to one of the demo pilots I asked last Wed.

Did the the demo pilot give any credibility to the story of "Birds" influence on the "Blues schedule??

No. He just said they're maintaining proficiency; just the normal stuff. I have no "inside" information, other than people in Pensacola are miffed about their grounding. Kind of like standing the Packers down in Green Bay.
