AZ what other reason might there be? If you are supposed to have 80 pilots and you have 80 pilots and no one is leaving, why would you hire?

See Jeff? He's trying to make you feel at home!

"I wouldn't imagine USA Jet hiring anytime soon. With Ford annoucing factory closings, it's just a matter of time before USA Jet does the same. It's getting to be layoffs time again there.

For those who don't know, a majority of USA Jet business comes from Ford. Yes, I know, they diversified, but in the end, it's mostly Ford over there. Yes, yes, I know about the pax planes, but the freight is mostly Ford."

Now Iaflyer why you gotta go and diss UsaJet?? You always have to burn bridges don't you?

I'm just saying what I see as a possibility at USA Jet. In the past, when Ford and other auto manufactuers have had problems, USA Jet has either furloughed or had pay cuts. In my opinion, that might be coming again.

Shoot - don't listen to me, listen to PilotYIP:

USA Jet is diffeerent company now days, our passenger business is making for a loss in the traditional automotive business.
How long is USA Jet management going to allow a "loss in the traditional automotive business" to impact their bottom line? PilotYIP tells the truth - sometimes it's clear, sometimes it's between the lines. I have never had PilotYIP lie to me - sometimes he says stuff people don't want to hear, but it's the truth.

At Zantop they would lay you off and then call your house and tell you you were rehired and you had a trip.

Would a guy with 4k hours in military helos but only 110 MEL have a shot at making it to the pilot pool at USA Jet?

We love helo drivers, I just got done 15% checkride on an ex-Army AH-64 driver in the DA-20 today. We have one in almost every class.

I agree with the quote, its just that he is overly optomistic, and his optimism tends to skew reality. He would be striking up the band on the deck of the Titanic because the iceberg might have knocked metal off the ship so it will be lighter, more agile, and faster. He will always find a positive angle to broadcast, because that is just the way he is.

One year ago the pilot roster required almost 100, now 80? What gives?

As long as he's not lying, I'd rather be around someone who can see the positive side of something rather than someone who is constantly b!tching and moaning and bringing everyone else's morale down.

Hey Jeff. I worked at USA Jet, on the corporate side about 5 years ago. At the time, it was a great opportunity. I got lots of jet time and got in good with the owner, Nice guy but real cheap. For the most part it was a good experience, but I never got one day off ever. (except my two weeks vacation) I don't know how the corporate side is run now but I do know that my buddy on the freight side worked like mad. It was good for him because he had no wife and kids and was gone all the time. At the time we bought a house in Ypsi. and still have it. There are nice parts in Ypsi. if you buy in one of the newer subs. (greene farms or millpointe) Good luck...
