do you have a college degree?

Jeff with your spelling you will fit right in, from the looks he has no formal education..Excellent. Spelling is as follows: Cheyanne is spelled Cheyenne; Commerical is spelled Commercial; Chied Pilot is actually Chief Pilot. If you can't spell them how can you fly them? I hope you have more than 500, someone was saying they are hiring at 1500/750. They also have 13 bid periods that are 28 days long, you get 10 days off out of 28. That means you work 18 and get 10 off. They have bid lines that break it up. ATPCliff flys for them PM him. Later dudes, just busting your chops Jeff

Ah, Ypsilanti is so beautiful this time of year. Too cold to smell the toxic waste and the skunks aren't roadkill until spring.

Do a search under USA Jet; you will get the good, the bad and the ugly. I mean the really ugly. Competitive mins right now are 2000 TT, 1000 MEL, hiring preference given to pilot's who think YIP is a great place to live. Due to low turnover, there is no hiring planned at the present time. We are interviewing to build a pool for future classes. Disregard G200, we hire people with college degrees all the time. We do not let presence or absence of a degree stand in the way of hiring the right stuff.

I wouldn't imagine USA Jet hiring anytime soon. With Ford annoucing factory closings, it's just a matter of time before USA Jet does the same. It's getting to be layoffs time again there.

For those who don't know, a majority of USA Jet business comes from Ford. Yes, I know, they diversified, but in the end, it's mostly Ford over there. Yes, yes, I know about the pax planes, but the freight is mostly Ford.

so with a layoff and no college degree - does that get you on the fast track to the majors (turbojet PIC) or to the counter at Burger King?

gotta have the right stuff..

iaflyer is telling you about the old days. USA Jet is diffeerent company now days, our passenger business is making for a loss in the traditional automotive business. We have not done much automoitve flying this month, but we are having one of busiest January's in the company's history.

G200 you have all wrong most of our lay offs have college degrees they can go straight to Home Depot into a management training program, and they get discounts on building supplies when they get called back to work two months later.

AZ what other reason might there be? If you are supposed to have 80 pilots and you have 80 pilots and no one is leaving, why would you hire?

See Jeff? He's trying to make you feel at home!

Now Iaflyer why you gotta go and diss UsaJet?? You always have to burn bridges don't you?

I'm just saying what I see as a possibility at USA Jet. In the past, when Ford and other auto manufactuers have had problems, USA Jet has either furloughed or had pay cuts. In my opinion, that might be coming again.

Shoot - don't listen to me, listen to PilotYIP:

USA Jet is diffeerent company now days, our passenger business is making for a loss in the traditional automotive business.
How long is USA Jet management going to allow a "loss in the traditional automotive business" to impact their bottom line? PilotYIP tells the truth - sometimes it's clear, sometimes it's between the lines. I have never had PilotYIP lie to me - sometimes he says stuff people don't want to hear, but it's the truth.

At Zantop they would lay you off and then call your house and tell you you were rehired and you had a trip.

Would a guy with 4k hours in military helos but only 110 MEL have a shot at making it to the pilot pool at USA Jet?

We love helo drivers, I just got done 15% checkride on an ex-Army AH-64 driver in the DA-20 today. We have one in almost every class.

I agree with the quote, its just that he is overly optomistic, and his optimism tends to skew reality. He would be striking up the band on the deck of the Titanic because the iceberg might have knocked metal off the ship so it will be lighter, more agile, and faster. He will always find a positive angle to broadcast, because that is just the way he is.

One year ago the pilot roster required almost 100, now 80? What gives?

As long as he's not lying, I'd rather be around someone who can see the positive side of something rather than someone who is constantly b!tching and moaning and bringing everyone else's morale down.

Hey Jeff. I worked at USA Jet, on the corporate side about 5 years ago. At the time, it was a great opportunity. I got lots of jet time and got in good with the owner, Nice guy but real cheap. For the most part it was a good experience, but I never got one day off ever. (except my two weeks vacation) I don't know how the corporate side is run now but I do know that my buddy on the freight side worked like mad. It was good for him because he had no wife and kids and was gone all the time. At the time we bought a house in Ypsi. and still have it. There are nice parts in Ypsi. if you buy in one of the newer subs. (greene farms or millpointe) Good luck...

Hi!

USA Jet just had a new hire class get done with IOE. They are planning another class in April. We may have more when the newest PAX DC-9 is announced. They R interviewing now.

PM me if U want detailed info.

Cliff
PVR

PS-Falcon guys get 10 off every 28, and -9 guys get 12 off every 28.

PPS-If U R a mil helo guy, U CAN get hired with 100 MEL minimum.

The Good= If you are low experience, you will get baptised by fire, but only fly about 20-30 hrs a month, not really a good time building job. Maintenance was OK, I think for the most part they try thier best, when the plane was broke, that was that and FAX the log page, about 20% of the time you would get the come on its not that far type of responce. The Falcon and DC-9 are trucks, you cant really hurt them.

The Bad= Your at the whim of management (whats new huh) the management is at the whim of the auto industry, which by the way other than a few PAX ops on the 9's, they refuse to diversify to other areas, no matter how bad the auto business gets, which in the past they would lay off, but as of rescent history, they will just cut your pay around 30%.

The Ugly= As previously stated, you dont fly that much, so there will be no overtime unless you sell back one of your 10 days off. They want you to move to YIP, but I dont think it is in writing that you have to, so if you commute, your definetely not going to want to sell days off. Upgrading is hit or miss, some of the guys last year upgraded quick, some have taken 3 years. If you take a 9 upgrade(FO), then your going to be a proffesional 9 FO, years before you upgrade on the 9 to captian from the right seat. So if you wait for the Falcon, and you finally do upgrade, it will take you a few years to get to the coveted 1000 hr PIC turbine mark, unless business picks up, but also as previously stated, they will not budge from the auto industry.

Pagers= 24/7 on your days on. If your #3 at 12 noon and you got up at 9am, by the time midnight rolls around you might be #1 on the rotation. If you got into bed at 10PM or so and then the pager goes off, you have 20 minutes to get out of bed, get your uniform on, head to the airport at 3F degrees in the snow, preflight the airplane, get the clearance and be off the ground in 45 minutes on your way to Mexico, then to wherever, and your legal to operate well into the next afternoon, hence "baptism by fire".

Summary: Long hours, low pay, may be lower if pay is cut, OK airplanes, most of the guys you fly with are cool, there is also fun to be had. By far the hardest working pilots in some of the most demanding situations that can be found.

I think though if you had a regional job lined up, you would be far better becuase of the time you would build there, nice equipment, human schedule, airline benifits, quality of life, but of course low pay, but heck, first couple of years at UPS you dont make anything either.

Does USA JET have a training contract/Ameristar

Does USA JET still have a training contract? Which outfit is better for QOL Ameristar or USA JET? I know Amerstar has a 18 month contract. Wondering which pays better with the amount of hours flown and all.

Thanks

No training contract at USA Jet. Gimp is close on what USA Jet is all about. However he left something out, no one is going anywhere, it spite of all the down sides, it is still better than most jobs our pilots could find at other places. Gimp is not paying attention to what is being said at the pilot meetings; the automotive flying is being replaced by non-automotive flying. The fact we are starting a class next week is a good sign. We have pilots scheduled on our interview schedule through May, so someone must think it is an OK place to look at. If interested go to jsfirm.com and post a resume to our DA-20 F/O position. Interview, if invited, take a look, make up your own mind.

Hi!

The last newhire class (4 is the standard number) there was one guy from Ameristar. In the next class (April) there is also an Ameristar guy. In the past we have had at least 1 guy come from Ameristar. I don´t think any USAJet guys have ever gone to Ameristar.

As of the middle of Feb, USAJet flying was 50/50 auto/non-auto.

The average for monthly Falcon flying the last 3 years was about 40 hrs/month.

Winter is our slowest time. Jan:25 hrs Feb:10 hrs Mar:45 hrs (in only 12 days).

DC-9 at TEB

I just talked to a buddy of mine at TEB who said he saw a USA Jet DC-9 land there. How often do USA Jet DC-9s serve Teterboro? I didn't even think DC-9s were allowed to land at TEB due to the noise sensitivity in the area... Was it a pax charter or a freight run?

By the way, what are your minimums for hiring into the DC-9 as an FO? Thanks

The DC-9 in TEB is doing NCAA Basketball charters. All hiring is done into the right seat of the DA-20, cargo side. Some pilots have moved to the DC-9 in thier first year. Right now DC-9 Captain is about 6-7 years.

Hi!

Correction!

Buckeye said I screwed up my earlier post. USAJet has had one guy in the past come from Ameristar. The 2 new guys are from little Kalitta (learjets and falcons).

The Falcon sometimes flies into TEB, but not very often, either.

Hope ya`ll R having a great day!
