US DOT approves wet lease from non US airline to US airline

From IFALPA Daily News:

euroAtlantic-0001 (2)For the first time the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has formally approved a long-term wet lease from a non-U.S. airline to a U.S. airline.

The wet lease involves a Boeing 767-300F aircraft of euroAtlantic Airways, the Lisbon, Portugal based airline that specialises in aircraft wet leasing and charters. The recipient airline was not identified.

In a press release, euroAtlantic said that in 2008 the DOT “established a new policy setting forth rigorous approval requirements for such wet leasing. The policy, entitled Provision of Entire Aircraft With Crew To a U.S. Certified Air Carrier By a Foreign Air Carrier, allowed a non-U.S. airline to apply for authorization to conduct such operations under very strict conditions. But neither the DOT nor the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had ever approved an application under this new program”.

A ‘Wet lease’ is where the lessor airline provides both the aircraft and crew, usually maintenance and insurance as well, to the other airline.

At the same time, we are all caught up in the age 65 rule, and whole lots of infighting of USA pilots. Sad.

They have 3 pax versions of the 763ER, and 1 cargo bird. UPS might be leasing it to fly routes that were covered by that UPS 744F that crashed. Still, not a good thing.

Regardless, I hope everyone out there is having a FANTASTIC DAY. If you have time today, try to do something nice for someone, like picking up litter on the ground that is comming from the ajoining crack house you might live next to. See ya!

Bye Bye--General Lee
