US banks allowed to resolve checks electronically

I read on another board yesterday that President Bush just signed a law saying US banks did not need to have the original check returned to them as part of the resolution process. They can now do it by digital imaging.

Have you check hauler types heard about this. This seems like a pretty big deal.

I talked to someone who wrote a check at a store and the clerk handed the check back after scanning it in, said it is now all electronic and that he could keep the original.
