U.S. Airways on-time rate falls to industry-worst for March

By Padraic Cassidy
Last Update: 12:04 PM ET May 7, 2007

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) - U.S. Airways Group's (LCC
US Airways Group Inc on-time performance in March fell to 55.5%, the worst rate for any carrier measured in the month, according to the Department of Transportation. The DOT air travel consumer report for March said 10.3% of U.S. Airways' flight schedule in the month was late 70% or more of the time. Most of the delays were caused by the carrier, rather than by weather or security, according to the report. U.S. Airways Group struggled with operations during an ice storm on March 17 and faced disruptions as it moved to a single reservation system, combining America West systems, in early March.

The hits just keep coming for these guys!

Yet they still made more money than DAL.

Analyst estimates on the new DAL stock are going south too...

Where is the General so he can pat me on the back with my call on that one?

It really should not surprise anyone. Ya know with contract negotiations going on and all. I speculate that the sooner "DUI Doug" settles his contract issues the sooner his operational performance improves. And I bet it improves dramatically...

This will be Alaska Airlines in 3 months if they don't get serious at the table. This is the only pressure that works.

Haven't you guys heard? It's the jet streams fault half of our flights are late. Those pesky headwinds seem to only be targeting US Airways flights and nobody else's. ;)

Excluding restructring items......"the company reported $711 million in operating profit."
US airways reported a $500million profit!
DL traffic up 4%.
US Airways traffic down 1%.
DL's value is still second to LUV.

Analyst estimates on the new DAL stock are going south too...
BFD....What has LUV's stock done in the past year??

Where is the General so he can pat me on the back with my call on that one?

I'm pretty sure you have no problem patting yourelf on the back!
Don't let facts get in the way!

DAL unit revenue is increasing and so is DAL traffic. The same can not be said for LCC. Not surprising given LCC's poor operational performance with the industry's worst on time performance.

US Airways' April Traffic Slips Modestly
Monday May 7, 4:02 pm ET US Airways' April Traffic Slips by 0.1 Percent, Unit Revenue Weakens From Year-Ago Period

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -- US Airways Group Inc. said Monday its April traffic slipped 0.1 percent, as weaker Latin American traffic offset growth to Europe and flat domestic results.
President Scott Kirby also said in a statement that US Airways' overall unit revenue -- an important financial gauge for the industry -- fell in April from the year-ago period. Other airlines have warned of softening unit-revenue trends, and concerns about weaker domestic results have led to a series of analyst downgrades in recent weeks.
US Airways said its overall traffic slipped to 5.45 billion revenue passenger miles from 5.46 billion in last year's April. A revenue passenger mile is an industry unit measuring one paying passenger flown one mile.
European traffic grew 4.8 percent to 498.1 million revenue passenger miles, domestic traffic rose 0.1 percent to 4.55 billion revenue passenger miles and Latin American traffic fell 7.3 percent to 408.2 million revenue passenger miles.
Overall capacity shrank by 0.2 percent to 6.63 billion available seat miles, as declines in domestic and Latin American capacity offset growth on European routes.
Occupancy improved to 82.2 percent from 82.1 percent.
So far this year, overall traffic has risen 1.5 percent to 20.46 billion revenue passenger miles on 0.1 percent capacity growth to 26.06 billion available seat miles. Occupancy has improved to 78.5 percent from 77.4 percent.
US Airways' shares fell $1.10, or 3 percent, to $35.05 in afternoon trading.

Does it make people feel good to slam airlines other than their own? I swear, this board has degenerated to the level of junior high school.

I think it's worse than junior high maturity. My 9 year old is in the back yard playing with friends and their arguments are more mature!

What's the point of two Delta guys slamming US Airways again? Anyone?

Just think, these same people are responsible for safeguarding lives.

Well, let's see here.

No contract, and no serious headway during talks.

Just got slammed with the Arbitrator's ruling pretty much killing their career expectations on the East.

And people are surprised about this?

The employees have absolutely ZERO incentive to do anything other than wait for the airplane to be ready to depart, take their sweet time getting from point A to point B, then head to the hotel and turn their phones off.

This is what happens when you screw an employee group so bad they have little interest in continuing to work, other than drawing their paycheck every 2 weeks.

"Ding Ding Ding" We have a Winner, ladies and gentlemen.

What do you expect, just look at the top of the company. After the whole DL hostile takeover time. Hostile takeover in the corporate world are always an "iffy" proposition. And, the airline business is a Very Very 'service oriented' business; even if you get the management and financial people to eventually go along, dragging 50,000+ employees 'kicking and screaming' into a new company that they don't want. How does that sound smart???

And, even if the industry takes a down turn, and mergers happen (as they probably will); unlikely LCC will be apart of it, as Parker has lost almost all creditably. Not exactly the 'sharpest pencil in the box' :)

Just for what its worth.

DA

Good post Lear, like myself, you always try to be 'informative and reasoned' in you postings, don't worry about what the morons say, as I am sure you don't.

Don't worrying it's just an ongoing trash talking session. In truth I know several friends and father's of friends that are Delta pilots and have nothing but the highest respect for them.

Hey dude- ever strike you they are in a slow down and it's on purpose. No contract, no on-time. It's the game- not second rate pilots.

Dude:
Those are feb numbers.......The arbitrator's ruling came just 2 days ago. However, I do understand that sick calls are up and cancellations are skyrocketing! That's the slowdown you talk about!
