Are there any others out there waiting for a new hire class at USAirways? I interviewed in Feb and was told probably a May class. Then a couple of weeks ago I got a letter that said that classes have slowed down and that I will get assigned a class as soon as slots become available.

Does anyone have any insight as to when new hire classes may resume? The recruitment folks are somewhat vague as to when those slots may open. What do you guys hear?

According to D.M., some PDT/PSA pref hires will be foing to class in July. The exact date TBD.

I was told there are three pools. PDT, PSA, and "off the street". Those of us in the off the street pool will be among the last to be offered a class date. I was not givin a time frame as this changes so rapidly.

jrye's info is correct.

Currently classes are small and being filled only with PDT/PSA. Off the street is on hold indefinitely. One person was told no off the street for the rest of the year.

If the United merger goes through I'd expect a class date around about never.

Hey Burro,

Why the rush to leave your Citation X? I say enjoy that for awhile until this UAL/US merger mess is figured out... Enjoy life in the fast lane while you can...

I can say that flying the X is a real kick. Believe me, I thought long and hard about this decision. In the end, because of conditions at my current employer, and looking at the long term, I felt it was about time to move. I certainly enjoy the type of ad hoc flying I do now, as opposed to the routine scheduled airline stuff. We go cooler places, are treated well by the FBOs, don't have to mess with the TSA everyday, and all sorts of other advantages. But there is not a lot of long term job security here. Not that there is much more security in the current airline environment, but looking down the road a few years it seems like the right thing to do. I hope I'm right :)

long term stability is becoming more and more elusive at the airlines as well. it's a total crapshoot. we're all along for the ride at this point.

let us know if you hear anything concrete from the HR folks.

I can't believe hiring is at a trickle, when we reserves are working like crazy and they don't have enough people to cover trips, working into days off, etc..

Of course, I don't have the "big picture"

Company said in update that currently hiring PDT, PSA. Don't know about "street" poolies..

Best of luck either way

PSA is overstaffed. It would make sense to draw from the wholly owned pools to ease the swelling caused by a slow down in mainline classes.

Burro, I worked for a 61 year old company - Aloha Airlines. Unlike many carriers in the mainland, Hawaii had 2 incumbents that were viewed as permanent fixtures. Well, take an incompetent management team, add some egos and you are the one that pays the price.

I said it before on another board, and I'll say it again here... if you lose your job flying that X, your experience counts for something, and I'm sure you'd be able to find a job flying a X paying a comparable wage to what you were making at your old job, if not better. You are a professional...

In the airline world, you have absolutely worthless pilot unions, archaic seniority system, and Corporate America rejects running the whole show. In the airlines, you are a blue collar, union monkey. If you are unfortunate enough to get furloughed or your airline shuts down, your experience is completely irrelevant; when you get hired someplace else, back to poverty wages you go - courtesy of your union.

Not worth it, pal.... stick with corporate.

"...and Corporate America rejects running the whole show."

This is something I've been wondering about. Can you give some examples of Corporate America rejects that have come to the airline industry and where they came from?

Airlines do seem to attract the lowest form of life into the boardrooms. I'm curious why this keeps happening.

Not out west. This is my 3rd day on reserve out of 4 and I've yet to hear the phone ring...
