US Airways Loses Loan to 100 RJs

Read this article about Airways losing their loan for 100 previous ordered RJs (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A30152-2004Sep17.html). Does anyone know if these are the 200 and 700 series from Bombardier or the 170s from Embraer? ...or heard any more about this for that matter?

The official wording from GECAS is the financing has been suspended. IF U survives and does come out of bankruptcy the aircraft delivered to PSA (in my understanding) will total 65 not 85 (currently 40-43??). 20 of the aircraft will be sold to someone else.

How many E170s on the property now?

Not good news if USAirways expected to replace its gas guzzling and maintenance-intensive 737s with the E170. I think focusing on a fleet of Airbus A319/A320/A321s and E170s (with CRJ 200/700/900s on the regional side) would be the way to go. Time to simplify the fleet big time if it is going to work.

So much for Airways trying to phase out all contract carriers.... We'll see what happens with the restructuring plan now. Without further wage concessions this airline is gonna suffocate itself.

Maybe someone in this industry has some business sense after all. If I was in charge of Embraer, US would pay nothing but cash for every aircraft they take.
