Hello guys!

Check out this photo: http://www.airliners.net/open.file/321396/M/

Looks like the FO is bummed out! I mean look at the cap, isn't that unprofessional in the major? Or is this normal guys?

I find that somewhat interesting, not in the industry yet - on my way though.

This is not a flamebait! :)

Completely normal. The us airways system allows for pilots to wear baseball caps as they pull away from the gate, not sure about other airlines. Some guys like the protection from the sun and you're certainly not going to wear your uniform hat with a headset on.

B1900FO, my bad - sorry was a typo. I corrected that now. Yea, come to think of that californian sun - can be a sauna in the front office! :)

I carry a baseball cap in my flight bag now. Sometimes, the angle of the sun is such that even the best pair of sunglasses is not enough. Without the baseball cap, flying the airplane would require three hands: one for the yoke, one for the throttles, and one to shield your eyes from the sun's glare.

Nah....that's the other use for the checklist card!

Always wear the ballcap! RDU to DFW yesterday right into the setting sun! Unprofessional? Who will see? I don't walk down the aisle with it on when I have to take a squirt!
BTW, glad your motivated but you might want to edit your "goals". Too many on the street right now-

First of all, what a great picture!!! Secondly, I think it's cool even though I don't practice it-- the movable sun shade pretty much covers all angles on the A-320. In the military, I remembered when one commander outlawed them because it was considered "unprofessional"... Let's just say he didn't become one of those leaders that crewmembers liked to work with. In the end, a compromise was reached but only squadron ball caps were allowed to be worn, jeez...

It's not unusual at all for a flight crew member to put on a baseball cap after the door is closed and locked. You'll understand why after you've been sunburned flying at FL410. As for the FO looking down and getting his pic taken at an inopportune moment (like when running a checklist or looking for the darned checklist card after it fell on the floor)...well c'est la vie! We all can't be photo models all of the time (I think it is a great pic).

Happy (con)Trails!

Yeah, I guess that sun can be brutal! Remember I am up in Alaska guys! ;)

You think a baseball cap is strange? I saw a Delta jet pull up to the gate once, and the Captain was wearing a Stetson (aka - cowboy style hat).

.

Maybe he's watched Dr. Strangelove a few too many times. Lends a whole new meaning to the term "cowboy pilot."

BTW, Dmitry I have friends at AS. That company wants to see that AS is your ultimate goal not a stepping stone. Better change that signature line........
Hehehe

embdrvr, Rgr! ;)

AS is a place I'd like to be one day, but I like FE and UPS also! Time will show, talk to you later!

heck I thought that's what they made enroute charts for..block the big bright burning ball in the sky

How high is the CRJ certified to fly? 410 sure is above average!

For all the specs you can go to Bombardier.com or Embraer.com depending on the flavor you prefer. The 200 flies high and fast but climbs like a wounded duck.

Thanks emb! I'll check out the specs. Of course I prefer the CRJ!

A plane is a plane.
Domicile, schedule, and pay are what matter most.
If someone paid me the same money to fly a Piper and offered me a better schedule and my choice of where to live I'd be all over it.

embdrvr,

Well you can make just that happen in AK! I know a guy who makes $75 on hr flying a Twin Caravan. 2weeks on and 2 off though! So I don't know if that count's like a good schedule?
