Looking for copies of monthly bid schedules/trip parings for Us Airways Express Carriers like CHQ, MESA, PDT, PSA etc.

AWAC's Us Airways trip parings are really difficult to commute, and we are looking into what other carriers have to work with so we can compare.

PM me if your willing to help out.

Thanks,

Bill

Haha... I don't think you are going to find too many good parings in the system with the exception of MAYBE some of the Mesa 900 "long haul" stuff. And then again, knowing how much their company likes to screw with them, those probably aren't too good either.

Majority of PDT schedules run early to late. 4 day crews with 89 hours away from base. Early start of 5 or 6 days on with a late finish, then 1 to 2 days off, then followed by another early start.

Yea, that is kinda what we are running into as well. We are not sure if it is Appleton or Us Air. Gotta love those 90 Time Away from Base trips followed by two days off then hey how about another uncommutable trip.

I don't even bother trying to find commutable schedules...it's impossible to do....I just plan on sleeping in the crew room at least once a trip

If God had intended Humans to fly, he would have made commuting easier!

I know that I'm still a newbie and not at the airlines yet, but do you REALLY sleep in the crew room? Why does your union allow the company to make schedules like that? Where do you shower and shave if you sleep in the crew room? Do you have a sleeping bag, pillow, blanket? Do you have a crashpad? Why not? Sorry for all the questions, but is this really what i've got to look forward too? If it is, then I'm seriously going to rethink my decision to become an airline pilot? Last question, is this just an anomoly at AWAC, or is this common at most regionals?

you can avoid all of this by living in base, or moving to the base you get. everybody has a choice, some just choose to live a harder life and complain abou it.

Not really a choice.
Airlines offer you no job security and low starting pay. Go to your financial
adviser and ask him/her if you should pack up and move your family to
a city far away for a $20k job. And in a flash you could be furloughed.
It just does not make economical sense to move. Not to mention that
6 months down the line the company could change your base. Now the
non-commuter is now commuting.

To be quite honest, even if I were to live in this friggen wonderful domicile I still wouldnt be able to have a life with half of these lines, and besides Id say at least 90% of these guys didnt choose to commute, the company pretty much made that choice for them.

I'd kill for sleep in the crew room. Really. I would.

Mesa USAir Schedules, as coded by Crew Tracking =

Fly late at night, sleep on airplane for a couple of hours, fly to another city at the crack of dawn (RE: THE "CAMPING TRIP")

Check into hotel at 0800. Try and sleep while all the maids are cleaning until 1800. Now, fly all night again, but you'll check into your NEXT hotel at 0400. (RE: "The Overday" i.e. not an "overnight)

Sleep til noon (RE: "Scheduled Reduced Rest"- - - hope the van ain't 30 minutes late at the luxury "Motel Six" It's legal, therefore, it MUST be safe.)

Fly some more! You'll be done by midnight, but your last leg will have a 4 hour sit before you go to home base (RE: "Airport Appreciation")

Mesa's a great company, because it really, really, really goes out of it's way to motivate you to go on to bigger and better things. Or just ANY other thing.

Yes people really sleep in the crew room. No they usually dont have a sleeping bag or anything like that. Usually they fly the last flight of the day so they get in around midnite and commute out of the first flight in the morning usually around 5 or 6 am. So they usually just catch a nap in the crewroom because they dont have time to make it to the crashpad or hotel. Yes I would say that this is what you have to look forward to. Most of the parings at my company are like this start early on day 1 end late on day 4 then back it up with a 2 day that gets done late as well. Then have a few days off and do it all over again. The union cant really do much because someone always has to fly the last flight of the day. And the mainline codeshare partners (United Mainline, US Airways Mainline, etc) are the ones that say which flights they want flown by which regional. Like some people said life is way better if you dont commute and you live in domicile. That is not always possible as domiciles always open and close and you can get displaced many times a year. (Ive been displaced twice in the past 4 months). Since Oct 02 Ive had 7 different domiclies...some of them have been bouncing back and fourth between 2 different domiciles because of displacements and downgrades. So I dont know about you, but it would have been even harder to move 7 times in 3 1/2 years then commuting.

To answer the first question, yes....each trip that I had in March had me sleeping in the crew room at least once.....I would always shower and shave the night before and then just "freshen up" that morning at 5am....I do have a sleeping bag and pillow that I keep in the crew room...I manage to get a couch about half of the time...otherwise its on the concrete floor....I could move to base but I don't want to live in PHL....could get a crashpad or hotel but I would rather suck it up and save a little bit of money....I don't think that it is an anomoly at AWAC......but they aren't helping us much with the line building right now either

I don't know who, but somebody at AWAC was pretty well off in the crew room in PHL the other day. Air mattress (a big one too) a pillow and several blankets. Thing was it was around 10 in the morning.

I don't know how anybody could sleep that long in there....I barely made it to 530

Commutabitity in the building of the trips is usually more able if your in the Hub such as PHL or CLT. But of course that's dependant on the number of originators you have. the clt pairings that were posted are usually mostly commutable, but then there are only a small number of originators out of there. Whereas in TYS or DAY, we have to do all the originators, 4 a day i think, and that's where they get the crews into the system, such as how they prob. do you guys in ORF and DCA. There's so many variables that go into it, but looking at it, it would seem they could manage the schedules a little better to make it livable, but they don't....so who knows...

One would think that DCA (being a "focus city" and all) could have decent schedules, but they appear to be the worst in the system. One would also think that with the amount of flying AWAC has in PHL, the farkin' crew planners could make a few more commutable parings, a few less lines with back-to-back trips, and alot less lines with multiple 2+hr hub sits with only 12 days off and 78 hours of block credit. I understand ORF being poor for commuters, but there is NO EXCUSE in PHL.

And I choose to commute because I don't want to be stuck in an expensive and/or hellhole city on the east coast. When I saw a brand new 1500sq ft home in IND costs what a 900sq ft townhouse cost in Va Beach/Norfolk, my decision was MADE...

I saw that! I was getting so annoyed by his cell phone alarm going off every 5 minutes. It's okay to sleep there like that, but he was out of line.
