Embraer 190s to Join the Fleet in November
February 9, 2006

Today, US Airways announced an agreement with Embraer that will introduce the popular E-190 aircraft to the US Airways fleet.

CEO Doug Parker said, “With the addition of E-190s, we build flexibility in route planning while offering comfort to passengers and leading-edge technology to our employees.

“Today’s announcement would not have been possible without the combined strength of both the former airlines, making this agreement all the more meaningful to the new US Airways and our employees. Of equal importance, these airplanes will be flown by mainline pilots and flight attendants, and that’s good news for our people.”

When, Where, and How Many?
Deliveries on the first 25 E-190s are scheduled to begin in November. These aircraft will be configured in two classes with 11 first class and 88 coach seats. GE CF34-10E engines will power the planes.

This order is an update to a previous order from US Airways and the airline still holds options on up to 82 additional Embraer aircraft in the 170 and/or 190 families.

Why the E-190?
The E-190 is larger and more comfortable than traditional regional jets, with more headroom for passengers during boarding/deplaning, plenty of overhead and under-seat storage space, and the two-class configuration that US Airways passengers have come to expect. The doors on these aircraft also are a similar height to larger mainline jets allowing them to park at and utilize jet bridges.

Below is the layout of US Airways’ E-190 aircraft, with 11 first class seats, 88 coach seats, spacious galleys and two lavatories. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more about where these aircraft might fly, as well as the actual delivery date of the first aircraft.

Good to see this happen for the US/HP guys... and good to see this plane go to mainline.

I wonder if they wish they hadn't sold the 170s to Republic now that they will have more of a fleet. 25 airplanes still isn't that big of a fleet for a whole new type.

90% of us are glad to see them go to USA/AWA as well. Good move for Airways.

A mainline sized plane being flown by mainline pilots. Let's hope they fly them for mainline wages.

Maybe there's hope for the industry yet.

Seems like a smart move on US Airways part. I'd imagine even with their crew vs. a Shaniqua crew it costs a couple hundred more dollars per hour to operate with over a dozen more seats. Good to see those aircraft going to a mainline carrier, finally something positive.

Pay rates area posted on the Major's board. As to the 170's, supposedly Parker tried to get out of the deal prev. US management made with Rupublic, but couldn't...... But I guess he was able to get out of selling the simulator. That supposedly is not transfering to them as prev. agreed to.

I'm thinking 25 is just a start and what's available in such a short time frame. There will (hopefully) be more coming but these were originally going to go to JetBlue.

Does anyone know how many crews are used to staff an airplane? And how long does it take to order and airplane, build it, and have it delivered?

Deliveries start November of this year. I don't know where the airframes are coming from as B6 and Air Canada had apparently tied up the line until next year some time. It's good to see planes going to mainline, even if the rates aren't as good as they should be. I guess it's much easier to recapture pay then flying. If I recall their was a side letter to the Republic deal that would allow Airways to repurchase the 170s as a group at some point in time. I know that those tails can only be flown for Airways.

As far as the WOs getting a flow up... do we really want one? Ask some of the Eagle guys how that worked out for them.

Don't get too euphoric over this-the mainline MEC has a way of eating their young.Remember the excitement when the 170's came to the "Embraer Division" ? Where are the MDA guys now ? Did anybody see that coming ? Bill P. and the "Giveaway Gang" will throw everybody under the bus without a second thought,W.O. guys included.

... The pay stinks, but I have a feeling Chautauqua or Mesa would happily fly them for less.
You know nothing except the location of the tailgate on the bandwagon of ignorance. Say "Baaaah," tool of the system. That is what sheep say.

That's pretty deep. I'll let the numbers do the talking.

First year proposed FO pay on the 190 at USAirways: $41.22. At Chautauqua/Republic: $22.00. Mesa (on the 900): $21.00.

First year proposed CAPT pay on the 190 at USAiways: $78.57. At Chautauqua/Republic: $62.00. Mesa (again on the 900): $59.00.

I'm too lazy to post the entire payscale, but I don't see where USAirways will fly the 190's for a lower rate than Chautauqua/Repulic, or the CRJ 900 at Mesa. Please clarify if I'm wrong.

Special MEC Hotline Alert - February 9, 2006
From: JR Baker, MEC Chairman
To: All AWA Pilots

According to news reports, US Airway's management tonight announced the
purchase of 57 firm EMBRAER 190 aircraft, with options for 50 additional
170/190 type aircraft. In the press release, the US Airways Chairman and CEO
Doug Parker stated: "We are excited to bring the superior comfort and
advanced efficiency of the EMBRAER 190 into our fleet, and we are
particularly pleased that these airplanes will be flown with US Airways
mainline pilots and flight attendants."

The AWA MEC is planning to discuss the allocation of new flying for both the
additional B757 and EMBRAER 190 aircraft that are considered additional
aircraft (i.e. not covered by the fleet plans in the attachments of the
Transition Agreement) with the AAA MEC and ALPA Legal early next week. We
should have additional details once we get a handle on all these issues with
all the parties involved. You can find pay rates for the E190 aircraft in
Attachment D of the Transition Agreement.

The JNC was in negotiations in PHX this week dealing mostly with Sections 10
and 11. The AWA JNC members will brief the entire MEC on the progress made
tomorrow.

Be careful out there,

JR

What a friggin joke. Sadly I'm sure there are some CHQ and Mesa pilots that are very upset today. Not all but some.

Is this new E190 pay scale comparable to the Old F28 pay scale at UsAir? Maybe even the F100 It held like 96 pax. (I think)

Well, those F100s were back in the good old days, but I was furloughed off one at $88/hr and will eventually be offered recall to the right seat of the 190 at $46/hr. Not too pretty but still better than having them at the regionals in the long run.
