US Airways recalls all furloughed pilots; will hire 350 new

Lisa Treon
9/12/2007
US Airways today announced plans to hire more than 350 new pilots with training dates beginning in November 2007. The airline will also move 140 pilots, who currently fly for US Airways Express carriers, back to the mainline flying seats they were furloughed from several years ago. The airline’s pilot staffing needs are being driven primarily by retiring mainline pilots. New-hire pilots will move onto the airline’s growing Embraer 190 fleet, which in turn will drive current pilots to other aircraft like the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 family.
“It was only two short years ago that both the former US Airways’ and America West’s futures were in the air,” said President Scott Kirby. “To stand strong two years later and announce that not only will we no longer have any pilots on furlough, but also will begin to hire new pilots is simply great news for our employees and our airline. Our pilots are among the most experienced and professional in our industry, and we look forward to welcoming our returning pilots from our Express partners as well as new pilots to our airline.”
Positions will be filled over the next 12 to 16 months. The airline’s Philadelphia base is home to Embraer 190 flying. Candidates can find qualifications and apply online at www.usairways.com/careers or by clicking the Careers link online at www.usairways.com.

wow, iam not impressed. they need to get their s--t together before anyone will accept a below standard job

Unfortunately until management figures out that you put employees first, I wouldn't recommend coming here. You'd think by watching Southwest's success they would have figured it out by know.

Well, with the passage of Age-65 in congress and a likely signature by the President, all seniority progression at AAA will slow to a crawl very soon. Maybe they won't need those 350 newhires after all.

Regional pilots will still line up for the job. If something better comes along, they will just move on to a carrier with better career progression.

Unfortunately US Airways is not the only airline to suffer from this type of menality!
<sigh>

I will put my stuff in, I don't care if I sit reserve for years... I live in PHL and it would be good quality of life, better at least then my current regional.

It's not just us. Every one while grind to a halt. Ah, yes done in the rear again by senior pilots. I hope I quite aviation before I ever turn into one of those smucks.

Job Title: Warm Body in Right Seat.

Interesting that USAir has NO PIC requirement. Looks like they realize where they sit in the stack of available companies right now.

I believe these are the same requirements they had in '99....... You don' even need an ATP, just the written....

Are new hires getting the America West pay scale or US Airways payscale or did they come up with a merged payscale yet?

Not that it matters much, they both are on the low end, but I think America West's pay scale was a little higher initially.

It would depend on which side you goto I guess. Statements said 80% to the east bases under their contracts....20% to the west under their contract. For the time being. 1st yr pay on the east is 36k salary I believe.

So your saying that the East guys will finaly stop boasting about all their attrition that they are only enjoying because of the merger????

As per the press release it is E190 positions. (PHL/36K new hire pay plus per diem). For now of course.

I think I'm going to apply.

I figure within one week of being hired I should have enough seniority to be placed ahead of a 20 year US employee.

I'm going to bring a little "bribe" to the interview. I'll slip a bottle of JD to Douggie before I interview and I will be in like Flynn.

Willing to have no self-respect should also be listed.

Wow...
That was a little uncalled for.... Maybe you already have a great job somewhere else, or have connections. But the fact of the matter is US would be a fine move for anyone coming up from the regionals that got offered a job there.

Chances are they'd be treated better than wherever they are now.

But I guess they should respect themselves too much to take that job, eh?

Group I/II 36K/1st year. E190 has it's own pay schedule. It's a little more, about 37K/1st year.

And maybe, just maybe you'll learn how to spell before you retire. :0
