Generally, what percent of students get a fighter track out of AF primary? Do the needs of the AF often change so drastically from time to time that a class will have all of their students go to the T-1? Once you finish UPT, do you then get any say on which MWS you're assigned to? For instance, if you go through the T-1 track, what kind of choice do you have of going to the C-130 verses the KC-135. Thanks.

Also, how does selection for the F-117 and B-2 work? Do you apply to the wing like the U-2? just curious.

Ans: From what I've seen, I would say 20% is a good average. It's all about timing. Remember, the T-38 track is "fighter/bomber" track. Your track assignment depends on class standing. In most cases, you will get the track of choice if it's still available when your name is up.

2. Do the needs of the AF often change so drastically from time to time that a class will have all of their students go to the T-1?

Ans: In the early '90s, fighter slots were very scarce and sometimes not even offered to UPT grads. So to answer your question....... yes it is possible. I have not seen this happen when I was flying tweets, and I don't think it will happen anytime soon.

Ans: Yes. You will fill out a "dream sheet" and the assignments will be handed out according to your class standing, in most cases that is.
If you want to fly C-130s, you can put in for the T-44 track out of primary. There are 4 tracks nowadays: T-38 (fighter/bomber), T-1 (heavies), Choppers @ Ft. Rucker (sp??), and T-44 (C-130) @ Corpus Christi.

Boxboy is correct, the current numbers of students who get T-38s out of T-37/T-6s is 27%. Take the number of active duty students in the whole class and multiply by .27. If the number is less than a whole number, the safe answer is round down, but cross your fingers for getting one more. Those who get T-38s may not all get fighters, some 38 drops have all pointy planes including B-1s and some have all small pointy planes, and sometimes you get one with 8 engines, and sometimes you may get a flying wing B-2 in the drop.

Best way to go, is go with a good attitude, work hard and study hard. The rest is out of your hands, don't game the system, put down what your desires are and get drunk on assignment night.
