Is there somewhere where I can get a copy of the training syllabus for USAF UPT, specifically for the T-37 and T-38?
I have found all sorts of sites with tons of gouge, but no syllabus.

None that I know of that is online. If you're on your way to UPT there is very little you have to do to prepare as far as studying.

This is how trainining progresses:

Phase I - Academics - 6 weeks
Aerodynamics, Systems, Basic Instrument, yada yada...

Phase II - appx 5 months - (T-37 or T-6) Three blocks of training:
Contact (stalls, spins, traffic patterns, acro, etc...)
Instrument - a bunch of sims and about 8 or so flights
Formation - About 18 form rides
Navigation - 7 Cross coutry legs, including one low-level

Phase III - appx 6 months - T-38, T-1, T-44, or UH-1
Can't tell ya much about phase III since I'm not there yet.

I can answer any specific questions if you have any.

BTW - Check out www.uptprep.com and www.accessableaviation.com

ILL Mitch,

If I tell you where to get one. CAN I GET:

10- FREE CDS
10- ILL MITCH T-SHIRTS
10-AUTOGRAPHED POSTER OF ILL MITCH

??

Thanks Marine Grunt. Nope...not on my way to UPT. I had a Guard slot many moons ago, but ended up having to deal with a serious family crisis and my alternate went. By the time the dust settled, I was too old with no age waiver in sight. I am just curious as to what I missed.

gmaster3 - HA! I'm still trying to get stuff from him, but the real Ill Mitch won't answer my emails. :( Maybe he got arrested again.

No

Even if you found a syllabus it won't tell you anything and you won't have a clue what it's telling you. It's a management tool. For examble fly C2503 before C2601. Do you know what C2601 is? If you've flown a XX88 can you fly another XX88, no you go straight to an XX89. Does it matter if you know all that before pilot training?
No, just get there and learn.

No need for the angry frown face, I was just curious. Since the way you describe the syllabus, you are correct that I wouldn't have a clue as to what it means.
What I am looking for is a breakdown in the hours, like hour 1 in the T-37 is going to cover this, hour 15 you will be flying this profile...etc...Thanks anyways.

Which syllabus are you looking for? Are you looking for a UPT syllabus? Doesn't exist. Or maybe the SUPT syllabus...BUT WAIT! we have a new JSUPT syllabus!! OR...maybe you'd be interested in our Pakistani supplement to the SUPT syllabus! If there are any tweet guys out there...is there an ALP supp???? AARRGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!

Seriously. Since we're going towards a totally paperless AF, the syllabus could be found somewhere on a SUPT Wing's secure website.

Illmitch - What the he!! is this? Is this a joke? Thats a really cool crash helmet you got there Mitch.

It's your lucky day dude... I was screwin with my computer and I found pretty much exactly what you're looking for. I have the T-37 sim add on for my Microsoft Flight Sim and it has a manual (in Internet Explorer format) on all the blocks of training in Phase II of UPT with semi-detailed explainations on most of the topics. I didn't look into it too much further, but if you want to check it out, you can get the program at www.t37sim.com.

Enjoy.

Hey Grunt... Phase III (which sounds like 'Advanced' in the Navy) is only 6 months for the guys that go T-38's? Holy crap, our T-45 syllabus is over a year...
Sucks to be you! :p

It seems like you guys blend what we call Phase III and IFF into one phase. We just structure it a little differently, I think.

It's necessary due to the nature of the different combat missions that come out of the T-38 track. There's no reason to teach an F-15C guy anything about A/G missions, so he'll do a different IFF track after finishing Phase III, for example. Remember, all our bomber pilots come from the T-38 track, as well...no sense in having them all learn BFM.

Hey Marine Grunt,
Hey thanks for the info. I bought it and it does ok. I changed the drag profile a little as it didn't want to slow down.
The info in the manual is pretty much what I wanted. Thanks again.

Ya that makes sense... we do everything in Advanced (our phase III) from bombing, acm, low levels, carrier qual, etc.... our RAG (RTU) is more just to learn the actual a/c you're going to fly.

Maybe we're talking about 2 different things with this RAG/RTU deal. Our RTU happens *after* IFF. For example, you'd go to Luke AFB in Phoenix for F-16s. Those guys do a LOT more than just learn to fly the jet. Of course there's the initial qualification checkride, but they go on to cover it all while they're there. The goal of RTU is to graduate a dude who's ready to walk into a fighter squadron as a ready-to-fight wingman.

Of course, the 2/4 ship flight lead and IP stuff comes later.

the RAG is the same as RTU. The Navy just does a better job of combining the training prior to the RAG.
If the AF was serious about turning out fighter pilots in phase III (the bomber thing doesn't matter) they would ultimately do the same with the T-38 track.

Pat- Do the prowler and Hoover guys go through the whole T-45 track?

Yeah, but have you ever heard the story about the 10 monkeys, the bananna, and the cage? :)

I don't think so. Is a slam on our Navy bros? :D

For once, no. :)

The story comes from an old scientific study. Scientists took 10 monkeys and placed them in a large cage. From the top of the center of the cage, they hung a fresh, ripe bananna. Whenever one of the monkeys tried to get to the bananna, however, a technician would spray ALL the monkeys with a very high pressure blast of water.

Since all the monkeys were getting hosed each time a monkey went for the bananna, they monkeys got smart: They'd start beating the sh!t out of a monkey each time he started to go after a bananna. This way, no monkey would try to eat that delicious piece of fruit. The behavior had been conditioned.

After a couple weeks of this, the scientists removed one of the monkeys from the cage and replaced it with a NEW monkey that had not been in the same room during the earlier part of the experiement. Naturally, the first thing this new monkey did was go for the bananna. Can you guess what happened? That's right: the 9 other monkeys kicked the sh!t outta him before he could get close. Each time he tried, the other monkeys stepped-in to prevent the spray of water. Because of this, no water was sprayed into the cage at any time during the introduction of this new monkey.

So, a couple of weeks later, the scientists switched out yet another monkey. As you can guess, the results were the same. It never got the banana, and no water needed to be sprayed into the cage at the monkeys.

Over time, all the monkeys were replaced with new ones. They all learned the "no banana" rule like those before them, until, one day, there were 10 monkeys in the cage who had absolutely NO IDEA why they were beating the sh!t out of the monkey who'd reach for the banana.

...and that, folks, explains the idiocy of AETC. Haven't you also heard the words "I dunno why we do things this way, man...it's just always been done like this..."

haha -- that is the monkey story.

Yes I have. As a matter of fact, that was the answer we get from the Wg/CC on why we continue to push ourselves to graduate studs on time only to have them sit in the GAP office for three months. It'll take time to move the AETC elephant on anything because it requires a lot of people in the command to change their routine. We wouldn't want to force the shoe clerks into accomodating the operators.
