I'm sure this has come up many times...

I pursued, and came close to, an ANG F-16 slot several years ago while I was in my mid-20's. Althought the Clinton years saw to it that I never got to UPT, I had heard that the AF/ANG was pushing the age limit to 35 now? Can anyone kick in their $.02 on this? I'm just about to turn 34 and thought I might inquire again with the local unit.

I did the AFROTC thing but never got commisioned and will always feel that I missed out on the military! Thought I might try again down to the very end!

Last I heard 30 was the age limit to start flight training. Remember, once you are selected by a unit you can expect to wait atleast a year for your security clearance before going to AMS (the guard's version officer training) then to UPT. They do offer age waivers, but also from what i'v heard, they are hard to come by. Not trying to discourage you,,,,, I had 1200 hours TT when I was selected, my recruiter says that is was almost too much time,,,,, with 5000 hours you may run into another problem. I think its still worth the effort,,,, go for it. You'ld propably have more luck going for a "heavy" slot (slightly less competitive).

good luck,

SR

You need a new birthday

ForgedBlade,

Go to Hati, and get one of the local baseball coaches to hook you up with a new birth certificate like they do for their 17 years old who still play Little League baseball. ;)

The USAF SUPT age limit is 30 by the class start date. Guard and Reserve units who transition to different airframes can get a 35 year old in. (ie, Portland switching from helos to KC-135s)

Maybe I'm wrong on this, but I doubt you'll find any unit who'll sponsor you at age 34, but you can try.

Even if you got a slot tomorrow, I would doubt any unit would have the pull to get you in training by your 35th B-day.

Call some units and ask for the Director of Operations (DO). You are most likely wasting your time and his, but if you want a real answer ask the question directly to the unit.

Yeah, I figured it was a lost cause at this point! Just had to know that I gave 100% and exhausted all my options. Thanks for the input guys!
