Not flamebait. UPS has made the decision that anyone placed in the pool prior to January 2006 will have to reinterview. Apparently, they feel that with the slowdown in hiring, anyone in the pool that long that has not been called for a class date must have "issues" and they want to reinterview them the make sure they are what UPS is still looking for.

I had a friend that had to do the same thing about a year ago. Bizarre if you ask me. Of course I'm sure no one is asking me...

I'll tell you what. This is the second time that they've done this in the past year or so isn't it?

What a crappy way to run an airline (yea I know they are a shipping company).

I don't think I would wait around for a company like that. Even if I didn't work for FedEx I would be doing everything I could to keep from patronizing that company.

Best of luck to the brown poolies.

UPS is supposed to hire nearly as many managers as line pilots or maybe more with the slowdown in line pilot hiring.

I hope you are wrong!!!

Man, I hope you have some bad info. If this is true, what a terrible way to treat these guys.

If I may ask, this is the first that this has been talked about. Where did you get this info? I really, really hope that you are wrong.

Sorry, my info is from a reliable source. Don't want to disclose who it is but, you will see that it is indeed true.

After having been working for UPS in a roundabout way for the past year, these poolies should thank their lucky stars and never look back. UPS sucks!!!! They are a trucking company that bought a few planes, nothing more nothing less. They treat labor like a bunch of 2 year olds. UPS management consists of a bunch of despicable nazi like individuals whom I wouldn't give the time of day! TYhis whole poolie story is merely one issue in an endless line of issues at that place.

I don't understand the purpose of the pool at UPS in the first place. It makes sense other places. If you go in, you are hired pending a training date. UPS uses it like a back-up hydraulic reservoir. That is the wrong way to treat people for sure. It's the type of backwards logic you'd expect from a passenger carrier who is dying a slow death (hhhhmmm....Delta), not a billion dollar profit per quarter company. I must be naive when it comes to the business side of things. What could a superpower company like UPS possibly gain by treating their employees like excrement?

I can assure you that, at least a year ago and for at least my friend, that this is true. He had to re-interview. He passed again. What a waste of time and money, and what a completely unnecessary burden on this individual.
Is there something I'm missing? Can anyone enlighten me as to why they take this stance?

We are excrement in management's eye. UPS is at the fore in the development of RPV cargo drones. When they are eventually certified you can bet your last penny UPS will be the first operator of them.

The big question is whether or not UPS will reinterview EVERYONE in the pool that is affected.

UPS doesn't care about wasting money, they have plenty to go around. They even add to their bottom line by fining their own employees in Dayton and the pilots at the contract carriers for absurdly ridiculous and inconsequential infractions. I mean come on, they are putting 1500 people out of work including me, and they have to add insult to injury by levying assanine fines on us. Typical UPS mentality!
I hope the rampers in Dayton do some serious damage to the equipment UPS plans to take with them to Louisville...Tugs, K-loaders, etc!! As far as the equipment in the sort facility, well UPS plans to destroy that anyway to prevent competition. Quite nazi like I do say!

Back the truck up!

Pipejockey,

Do you work for a contractor? If so, isn't it the responsibility of YOUR COMPANY to find new CONTRACTS? How is UPS putting you out of work? The notion of a contract is that it ends at some point. If the contract is broken, some kind of monetary damage must be paid. Your contract with UPS is ending, UPS broke our contract in regards to the transfer of flying inhouse, penalties are paid. But, your management has to find more work. This might sound harsh, but the truth sometimes hurts. I'm just getting tired of people saying that we are putting them out of work.

By the way, this thread wasn't supposed to be about you. But you were able to get your political statement in there anyhow. It is about the poolies. Are you a poolie? I didn't think so.

And when is the "official notice" coming out for this??

I second that! Don't they know that we would kill to work for them. First my companies troubles and now this, my heart just sank to a new low :( Guess it is time to get the interview stuff out and start prepping.

I'm sorry you are losing your job but what is destroying property going to do?
Is UPS going to "see the light" that they may have screwed people?
Is UPS going to treat their employees better because someone destroyed their equipment? If anything, they will treat employees and non-employees worse. I really think this way of thinking is counterproductive but maybe you are just venting???
P.S. I'm sorry you are losing your job....that sucks no matter who you are.

I think the people that had to reinterview last time where the ones that were in the pool for a long, long time (thinking more than three years). Man, I still picture that day vividly in my mind. I'm getting nervous again just thinking about it.

The Dayton freight should be flown by the UPS pilots, that much I agree with. By saying UPS is putting people out of work is directed more towards the people in Dayton. From what I hear, UPS didn't even have the decency to offer the Dayton people any positions in Louisville. They claim the law won't allow them to. They must hire residents of Kentucky first...what a crock!

And yes, this thread is about the poolies so I am sorry for putting my 2 cents in, but for the poolies I am happy they can get on with their life and not wait for word from the Waffen SS down their in their cushy lairs in Louisville.

What are some of the things they fined the contractors for?

Tug drivers going 17mph in a 15 mph zone even though they dont have speedometers and pilots for not wearing their green vests for the 10 foot walk from the stairs to the crew vans.

Pulling out the books

I hope it is not true about us having to re-interview but if it is, best of luck to everyone facing a re-inteview! Hopefully we will get the offical notice soon.

bad rumor yet again!

According to Airline Pilot Central, this rumor isn't true one bit. Someone in the cargo forum spoke to UPS human resources today, who discounted it.

Pipejockey,

I'm sorry if I came across a little too harsh. I'm not sure what has happened with the hub workers in DAY; what little info we get is from press releases and stories here on FI. From the sounds of it, so far, yes, it sounds like they are getting a raw deal. I don't think I have the whole story, and probably never will. Sometimes, this biz can be very ugly. I know, I've been on the receiving end before.

Also, sorry about the smart-a** comment at the end of that post.

Just read the post on the other board; good, credible info. I'm glad to hear that the poolies should be in the clear!

You didn't come across too harsh and no need to apologize. I may have sounded harsh as well. Anger does that at times.

So have any poolies here been called in yet? When is the next class date?
