UPS pilots too good to ride in an RJ?

Sorry pal. The toothpaste is out of the tube. You dont get a free ride to the majors. I dont get a quick recall, decent pay or workrules, or a retirement.

Fact is, I don't see why anybody would bother trying to get to the "majors" anymore these days. The light at the end of the tunnel is a train.

(FedEx and UPS excluded of course)


I for one dont want a free ride anywhere. I have worked pretty hard to get where i am no why would i want a free ride now. I just think that it would fix alot of todays problems, If either the planes would have gone to mainline or we go 1 list. You wouldnt be waiting on your recall if it was 1 list. Its alot easier for someone to start over when they are new to the industry than someone who has been flying for 30 years only to get furloughed from a major mid career. JMHO

Ok, so tell me this Tom Braniff. What exactly are you willing to give up to make this happen?

Nothing's free. You only have so much negotiating capital. And, as you might have seen by the 7000+ furloughs and the elimination of the defined benefit retirement plans... ALPA is fresh OUT of negotiating capital.

Management will not simply smile and agree that this is a good idea. How would it benefit them? They LOVE having everyone fight over scraps of flying.

How will you be paying sir?

Negotiation is also powerfull in mass numbers. Not trying to get in a pissing contest sir, just open discussion. Something needs to be done or there will be no reason to want to move onto the majors. I would love nothing more than for all of yall waiting for recalls to go back because then things would move faster here so i can persue my goals of making it to a major.

I don't blame them one bit. I wouldn't want to sit for more than 2.5 hours in an RJ either (unless I could get the whole row which wouldn't happen often with today's load factors). The CRJ 700 is better than the 200. I don't know about the ERJ 170 or 190. But in general, RJs are too confined for 3-4 hour flights.

As far as weather, I never give cloud heights except maybe to say "high overcast." I usually say "partly" or "mostly cloudy."

YOU already fly for a major! So do I and lots of other "regional" pilots! It's just that our paychecks don't reflect that fact.

I will adjust my comments,

Pursue my goals to move on to a higher payscale. At this time in my life i have zero urge to sit in a cockpit for 10+ hours a flight so flying bigger planes is a moot point. I just want a higher payscale. Plane size shouldnt matter for anyone.

Then you have two choices. Get on with Skywest or UPS. They both pay the same for jets.

Your misreading what i stated. I dont care what plane i fly as long as i am paid correctly for it. The bigger the plane, the more money it generates than the more i should get paid. If i could find a job making 150K a year flying a C-172 around then sign me up.

I already have that job. There is a J-3 Cub looking for a pilot, but the pay is only $120k or so. I wouldn't touch it with a stick. Those Cubs are so substandard compared to my Super Skyhawk, what with tandem seating and all. I have 4 seats, but I can only fly with 2 people other than me in the plane... Man, this job is soooo stressful.

So back to the original topic...if a UPS guys shows up to J/S and the flight is scheduled for 2:35 do I have to deny him?

You'd never deny a UPS or FedEx pilot the jumpseat because you'd want to suck up to him in hopes that they would walk your resume in one day.
