YES - FE Written MUST be less than 24 months old!!!
it is ultimately up to UPS if the test is acceptable or not
When I got the call for an interview some 8 months ago, first they asked me some questions regarding my flight time, currency, etc, etc. Mainly he was verifying the information they had was still correct. Then he asked if I had an FE written exam, when I replied yes - he made it very clear to me that it HAD to be less than 24 months old! I assured him that it was and he proceeded with some other questions. A week later when I came to Louisville I was asked the very same question again - upon which I showed them the FE written results; they wrote down the date (and not the score!?) of the test on one of the forms (mine was taken about a year prior).
Seemed to me there was no other option other than having an actual FE ticket already. I think they interpret the rules exactly the way FedEx does; in other words either have an FE certificate, or have an FE Written which is less than 24 months old, or take it again!
