Good for you (5 blocks, or "he who wishes not to be named", or maybe you're the guy formerly known as 6 blocks?) Anyway, I love to hear "perseverance pays off" stories. I'm truly glad for you.

BBB - Thank you very much; I still can’t believe it actually happened. I know some guys at UPS who’ll be getting free Starbucks coffee for life! ;)

Yeah, the “blocks” were supposed to look like “boxes” buy I guess it doesn’t really look that great, oh well…

I think one can have many views on the “hiring pool” etc, but I think it’s great we have so many different backgrounds at UPS. I am not talking minorities, etc, just military vs. civilian, 121, vs. 135, vs. 91, etc, etc. It’s amazing, every time I talk to someone about his or her background I find out aspects of aviation I’d never even heard of before. The other day I talked to a pilot who spent 10 years at NASA flying astronauts on “No Gravity” - practice missions. Of course, I’m sure there are really unique pilots at each airline; I just think it’s great we have such a large mix of different backgrounds here, that’s all.

Wile – keep updating, find good sponsors, attend as many job fairs you can think of and it’ll happen! Good luck!

Women in Aviation?

So, I understand that you fellas felt that you had better chances of "getting lucky" at a Women in Aviation conference? Now, that's a relief...keep up the good work boys!!!

I'm not holding my breath for UPS to get some more RR's to get some 72's out fo the desert. MX for one doesn't want the heachache to keep the planes flying. My bet is the -8 or A300 will be filling the need. The 727 rules, but the RR mod really blows. Bring back the 727-200's with the std JT8's! Tay's blow!

I was able to score an interview after 6 years of pursuit. I had one LOR from a line pilot and several air inc career fair appearances. With disappointment, I fell short of my goal and recieved a regret letter. I'll go find a job that has heavy int'l time and reapply. I know I'll be back. It hurts like hell now but it'll be that much sweeter when I do make it. Good luck.

sgu,

Sorry to hear that you got the "letter." It is anyone's guess to what UPS is looking for. It seems to be like DaVinci's code - no one can break it! Hang in there. What ever happened to World? Did they ever call?

Nothing from World yet, I may have a lead I can pursue there. Thanks for asking 1800.

World is a pretty cool place to work for. You will see the world, but on the flip side, you can be gone alot.
The letter sucks!!!

FYi for the hopeful...

Filled out the new computer app in Oct 2006, no recs on file yet, called in Nov2006, interviewed in Dec2006, 29 Jan 2007 classdate. Civilian white male, 10K TT, MD-11 type.

I did have several company recs on file by the time I went to SDF for the interview, but none to get the call. I'm still trying to believe it's real. They wanted me in class on monday for the -11, but I'm in Germany on a freighter trip and will be over the Pond Monday. Ce est la vie.

Good luck to everyone.

Wow, that is a fast turnaround! Congrats.

I got offered the Jan 16th class also (with 6 days notice), but had to turn it down because I was out of the country flying, and didn't have enough time to get ready. It looks like they are having a tough time filling that class.

I got offered the Jan 29th class also, so I guess I'll see you there.
