Welcome to the pool. I do have Mr. B. beat by one month. 14 months and stop counting. Not proud of it, but still holding on. One class was set for April 3rd with 6 guys. No new news on anything else.

Splash, splash in the old UPS pool.
LLB

LLB - What is really great is when your FE Written expires because you have been in the pool too long and you call HR to ask them if you need to update it, and they tell you YES and not only that, how about coming in and re-interviewing and re-flying the simulator. That's when that brown pool you've been swimming in starts to smell like a brown pool.

I hope it doesn't happen to you like it did to a BUNCH of poolies.

Best of luck.

Kidflo,

I remember that happening to many poolies. I hope the same about it not happening to me. As for the FE written. As long as you are current part 121 if does not expire. So as I was told by UPS (and others).

Thanks for the luck, I need it.

“…As for the FE written. As long as you are current part 121 if does not expire. So as I was told by UPS (and others). ..LLB”

LLB, you are correct as far as the FAA is concerned. However, when I read UPS website it states that you must “Hold a current flight engineer written or current flight engineer certificate.”

So the way I understand it, you must have an FE certificate OR a current (2-years) FE written.

Am I wrong thinking that? In other words, the website does not mention the part 121 exemption. So what is considered current? To be on the safe side wouldn't be best to just retake it?

Good luck to you btw, hope you and your fellow poolies will be able to dry off very soon!!!

Sincerely, av80r

FE Written

When I interviewed, I made sure that my written was curent within 2 yrs. I didn't want to leave anything to chance. If you are in the pool, I would think that you are ok to let it go past the two years. In my class, some of the writtens were past the 2 yr limit, and as you approached your type oral, all you had to do was go to the local FSDO and get your results recertified. Not a big deal for those guys - all of 15 min out of their day.

For the interview hopefuls, I would make sure mine is current. That is just my opinion. Just another box to check. My $0.02.

This is true. My results were "expired" when I originally interviewed in '01. I had the same test results when I reinterviewed in '04.

I agree. Though I didn't renew my results, it's probably a good idea to have a fresh written if for nothing more than to show that you're motivated and on top of things. But as far as technicalities are concerned, if you have expired results and have been in continuous 121 employment since you took the exam, the FSDO will waiver the results (as they did mine).

FYI...I was told the FSDO would need to see my logbooks in order to verify continuous 121 employment. Just to be safe, I called HR at my previous company and asked them to write a letter on company letterhead verifying my employment. I went to the FSDO with a buddy who was doing the same...he only had his logbooks...no letter. In the end, the FED gave my buddy a hard time saying that logbooks are not adequate proof of continuous employment. They accepted my letter and never even looked at my logbooks.

What's the deal with UPS hiring so few people? I thought they were poised to explode growthwise just after the contract is settled and will have lots of over 60 guys retiring too.

- It makes more sense now, thanks 1800RVR and RogerOver (good idea with the “121 employment” letter)
