The mighty 8

They are all domestic now. There are a few parked in the desert but they certainly haven't suffered the fate of the 727, of which a total of 30 will be parked next year.

DC-8 and all fleets

I fly the dc8 and I went to a communication meeting the other night, the DO told us that due to 170% growth internationally and 3% domestic growth the fleet plans are as follows.

MD-11 19 firm delivered by 2007, options for 35 more.

Dc-8 now 47 end of 2004 will be 45, no further parkings planned in the foreseeable future, however with the a300 taking all the 8's routes we will be mostly spares by 2005.

A300 firm orders for 90 options for 60 more. All firm orders delivered by 2010.

727 parking many more up to 16, by end of 2004 will be 20 on property.

747 had planned to park all by 2006, now will be 10-12 still on property thru 2007.

757/767 no orders planned, 75 75's and 31 76's.

Currently we have a team negotiating for a next generation long range freighter the frames mentioned specifically were the 777 freighter and A330/340.

They severely understaff us, and we have no contractual language to protect us from this. They are using the 727 to keep from hiring. The reason the 8's and the 74's are staying is because they have too much volume and can't afford to lose the lift. They say no hiring planned in 2004, this will depend on the contract.

I hope our new union president will handle the situation.

I am wondering if any UPS pilots could give an estimate as to when UPS may start hiring again?

The latest from management is they have no plans to hire in 2004.
