What are the reserve skeds like on the 757 Intl side of things at UPS? Specifically days off on reserve--are the skeds always 8 on 6 off or are there ever only 4 on and 3 off or so? Or is it something extreme like 14 on 12 off? For lineholders, are there lines with more than 15 days off or is that not an option unless you are very senior? Thanks

When you’re talking days off, you have to remember UPS does not have monthly bids (30 or 31 days) as most airlines do. We have 28 day bid periods (4 weeks) and bid 2 of them (56 days) at a time.

That said, most of the 757 international (known as SDFZ, or simply “Z”) reserve lines are either 16 on, 12 off or 8 on, 6 off. I don’t recall seeing any 4 on, 3 off schedules in the Z, but they do exist on other fleets.

The worst-case scenario is that you have the last 16 days of the bid period “on” and end up with a line that has the first 16 days of the next bid period “on.” This will result in 32 days-in-a-row of reserve. Not much fun if you’re a commuter.

I’m not a line holder so I don’t look much at the number of days-off in the hard lines. When I can hold a line, as a northeasterner, I’d personally be more interested in lines that have a DH to/from EWR or PHL on the beginning and/or end of the trip…or layovers at these places during the trip. I recently flew an 8 day Z trip and spent 3 full days at home during the trip. Made my 16 day stint of reserve much more bearable.

All of this is subject to change once the contract negations are complete and the new scheduling article is implemented.

Had A UPS B/767 res Capt on the jump seat. I got the impression he did a week on week off.The days are broken in to A group and B group depending on what time you start. He commutes to BOS and had about 12 yrs on the job. He had tried Louisville for 2 yrs it was not to his liking.

There are no 7 on, 7 off reserve lines, but if you have an 8 on, 6 off line it’s possible to move some days around to create week on week off.

Reserve A begins at 11pm and ends at noon the following day. Reserve B begins at 11am and ends at midnight.

Why don't you just look at the bid packets on the Flight ops page?

I am pretty sure most of 757 Z is 16 on 12 off.

Can anyone provide an example of 757/767 international routes. I presume the 757s hit the Caribbean and Latin America with the 767s hitting South America, Europe and then some Alaska-Japan. Does UPS have 757s stationed within Europe or within Asia that you could fly if you weren't based there? In other words, would you end up flying intra-Asia or intra-Europe after a one-leg trip from the US? Any examples - what does an "average" trip look like in terms of legs/sectors?

I think that would be pretty interesting - though a bit tiring I would imagine.
 
Had a SDFZ Pilot on the jumpseat last week. He showed us some trips out of his bid pack. There is no typical trip. He said there's everything from the 3 to 4 day Trans-Atlantic to the 2 week trip. He was on a 10-day 'round the world trip. He said there was so much variety of flying on the international domicile. He really enjoyed it. He said there's something for everybody.

clownhater is neither female or a UPS employee--that is why I was asking. I would surely look at the bid packet if I could. I do appreciate all of the info.

I think clownhater is the spouse of a UPS employee then?

If not, sorry....too many coincidences with your posts and questions with the hire date of someone and also their bid award to 757Z recently.

Folks....

Brown is moving away from the around the world flights on the 767...in the future I foresee the md and the 400 doing the longhaul stuff while the 75/76intl becomes the cgn and the crk sort....
