Why doesn't the FAA get rid of the damn age restriction for controllers? I can only assume there are many former military controllers, like myself, that would like to at least have a shot at a controller job with the FAA. Not that anyone cares but I have eight years of tower and radar experience but I can't get on because I'm over 31 years old.

I know why the age restriction exists but it seems stupid with the controller shortage the FAA seems to have now.

Not only should they hire you, they should pay you extra for having experience, just like any other industry (other than aviation).

Why did the FAA pick 31 as the cutoff age?
