Yes I am one of those starving CFI's wondering about regional upgrade times, specifically for CTQ and XJT. Where can i find thins info

The upgrade time change so fast with the company and economy. It will make your head spin and what Whiskerbizkit said above get hired and finish ur initial chekcride before you even worry about upgrade.

haha thanks, ive heard horror stories about eagle

More importantly, you should worry about which regionals have a pension. There are plenty of PFU carriers out there so you can upgrade when you want.

What? You've never heard of PFU??? That stands for "Pay-For-Upgrade." Anytime after year one you can throw down $20,000 and you can upgrade whenever you want.

Again, worry about the pensions. No regional worth their salt doesn't have a pension plan.

I'm sure you have, please make sure that keeps you from applying. Good thing we all make well educated decisions based on "horror stories" we have heard!

EEEEAAASY killer. SIT!

The question is will you be ready for that quick upgrade? I remember feeling overwhelmed at times when I upgraded in a 1900. That was at 2800 hours after a year in the airplane and oh yeah a buttload of time flyin a light twin single pilot IFR at night in the northeast. Most up and coming pilots today are going from cfi to RJ with NO experience. Worry about when you may be ready to be a capt, not when you can. It scares me how easy it is to get into a jet these days and how many of these capts have VERY LITTLE experience. Sorry about the rant but there is a hell of a lot more to sitting in the left seat than when your seniority can hold it.

A-f'ing-men. VERY good point. Just because you can handle the V1 cut in the sim, doesn't mean anything when something weird happens in the real world. I don't think ANYBODY should be able to upgrade until they see at least one deicing season and one thunderstorm season from the right seat.

It's too hard to tell, I can't see the future. Based on whats on paper right now it looks like CHQ will have the quicker upgrade. but that can change overnight. If USAir and/or United tanks, I don't think you will upgrade anytime soon, most likely you will be furloughed. On the other hand you may be a E145 CA in a year, who knows.

At XJet we get our 274th jet in the near future, and that is it. After that we may get more, but that is up to CAL. CAL's scope only allows 274 RJ's to be flown in CAL colors. It's a ratio. We do have 100 additional options with Embraer, but at this time we have no use for them. They may be just for XR's to replace the ER's and 135s.

When I was hired at COEX (I guess we call it XJet know), Gordon Bethune welcomed our new hire class to Continental airlines, and predicted we would all be 73 FO's within 5 years. Upgrades on the E145 were 18 months and 6 months on the props. Well that time has come and gone and I'm still an FO at Express. So ya get the point? It's all luck, some have it, some don't.

Flying ability is only one element in deciding if you're ready for the left seat. You should be safe in judgement and decision making both in flying and non-flying related issues. Flying is easy. Mx, wx, unruly pax, dispatch, station ops, and atc are some of the non-flying related problems you are in charge of and held responsible for.

Observe and learn. Your capt. should be happy to answer any questions.

Who has a pension? Most have 401k plans and maybe a defined contribution plan (ie XJT) but a pension? I think you're smoking something.

Holy double negative, Batman!

So you're saying that any Regional worth their salt has a pension plan, right?

JIMCAV, great info thank you very much, I agree 100%

The Comair Upgrades with the new bases are going to FO's with 4yrs years and less for GSO and when JFK opens it may go even more junior than that.
