In 02 (when they became PCL) they used Flagship b/c "Pinnacle" was already in use.

F-16's we used to work JAAT clocks with in ROK were JEDI. Always liked MC130's also - SPOOKY.

Chinooks in Kosovo were -BIG WINDY. Always got a kick out of that one.

Hey, why did the brain trusts of REPUBLIC change Shuttle America's callsign from "SHUTTLECRAFT" (a Star Trek reference) to MERCURY?

It was changed for about a day to "Crossroads" but that caused big issues with taxi instructions. Nothing like hearing " Crossroads 23 hold short 23" Not the best in a busy environment.

I heard the change from shuttlecraft was to do away with the "Shuttlecrap" references

In my old tanker days, we were "Texaco" during an exercise out of Rosy Roads. Knowing how call signs were generated, I don't know if that was pure serendipity or if someone with a sense of humor picked it out, but I happened to have a small collection of gas station patches and wore the Texaco patch on my sleeve the whole time.

We were offered "Gasbag" once from a list of generated call signs, but declined it. Don't think I could have ever gotten that one out without busting up. REEEEAL professional!:laugh:

It was ASA before they changed to Acey. Don't know the history, however. I always liked 'Red Rock' (think that's what it was) for National out of Vegas.

Aren't the stealth fighters and bombers Darth and Vader respectively? Also heard Shockwave once, it was a B-1 out of McConnell perhaps? As for airline call signs, IMHO nothing will ever beat "TWA".

"Speedbird" has to do with one of BA's predecessor airlines (BOAC) that had a bird as their logo.

Quite Possible... but I think I had to do more with flying the Concorde...

Nope, Speedbird was BOAC's callsign way before Concorde and before they were British Airways.
