At least they didn't blame it on the pilots (for once).

That place is dangerous, shut it down Daley.

Thankfully the United guys managed to skim over the top of the. That would of been a horrible accidnet and terrible for aviation.

After reading the article i'm trying not to be critical of the ATC as we all make mistakes from time to time but if 5 incidents at O'hare over a period of time links back to controller stress it might be time for the FAA to start paying for more staff.

Imagine how bad it would be if it was privatised.

ATC doesnt get paid enough

ATC deserves every dime they get. Most people dont realize they have to take medicals too and have retirement at 55, not 60. It just amazes me Bush thinks they're over paid civil servants. The pay cuts he just imposed on them are a slap in the face to them and really to every American that flies.

You don't want to privatize ATC because we all know that the gubment can do it better than anyone else. Just look at your states DMV.

While this is an ongoing investigation I think the facts would be better to discuss rather than speculation. We don't know if there was a LAHSO clearance issued or expected. The ORD controllers do an outstanding job with runways that intersect at critical points. Just happy no one was injured. Let's see how the investigation evolves.

The last time I looked ATLAS did not do LAHSO operations. The article in the local paper here in Chicago today said that the FAA has already said that the controller was at fault. He was to be interviewed by the NTSB today. The article also went on to quote the manager of the Tower who said that He has issued several recommendations to the NTSB on how things need to change at ORD and has received no response to any of his suggestions. It sounds like he does not agree with the way the FAA tells him to run the place. IE staffing levels, breaks etc... not sure of exact details.

oh right. why imagine if fedex or ups were your only options for sending letters. 39 cents? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

And Personally I am glad they are lowering the pay of controllers. These incidents will happen more often, with shorter staff, more stressed out controllers, and worse working condititons. But just like everything, regulators are in bed with the companies they are supposed to police, and nothing gets changed until people get killed

The controllers need to learn to SLOW DOWN!! I've been in there when there is no traffic to speak of and they are still talking on the radio like a bunch of Carolina Tobacco auctioneers when there was is no need to. If the airplanes back up,then so be it. Better than killing a plane load of passengers IMO
