I was looking at united mins and see that they require 1000 pic. It might take me awhile to get that much with my military (non-flying) commitments. I am just wondering what is competitive? I think I am 900 hours away and not getting called on reserve.

The non-military pilots I know getting called have about 3000 hours 121 PIC. If you have military flight time, it might be different.

Are most of the pilots comming from the 121 side? Are they looking at many corporate guys?

In our class of 16 in Nov...1 mil. 1 corp. rest 121 regionals....Competitive was about 7800 hours and 2000-10000 pic 121 time.

That is why they are still interviewing and hiring...I agree, does not make sense to hire then lay off....where did you read they were laying off???...or are you going off of someone elses wishful thinking.

Don't know if they are laying off, but if they park 100 jets like they said could happen, it would seem that they would have a lot of extra guys on their hands.

A reporter took selected words from a mgnmt type and wrote that article...they have not said they are parking 100 aircraft...it was a EXTREME case example and all he was saying is they have flexability.

For the record I hope they don't park jets and let guys go! I was just making an observation. Good luck to all current and people hoping to get on there.

so much negatitivity.......why cannot we all be friends. God I hope none of these mergers happen. The management teams will be the only ones who win. employees will get cut, pilots will be merged and most everyone will be unhappy. I have no idea who will come out on top, I am pretty sure it will not be me, I am still stuck at a regional.....one who has beat me down fairly well I must say. It will take years to build competetive mins for united, unless they start hiring at lower mins. But from the experience level in all the new hire classes, guess what? Looks like a lot of guys who have not made it to the majors still want to be there. Good luck all.....I will be flying the Saab for some time yet to come.
