United, US Airways each open to finding merger partner
The chief financial officers of United Airlines and US Airways said Tuesday they are open to merger discussions in an industry that "needs to be consolidated." United's Kathryn Mikells said a merger is "something we will continue to look at," while her counterpart at US Airways noted that "consolidation is one of the major ways this industry can become profitable." United is interested in merging with either a foreign or domestic carrier, while US Airways is looking only for a domestic merger partner.

Airways just doesn't seem to have anything desirable to offer potential mates. At least not as a whole, in my opinion.

We're like a couple of fat chicks hoping somebody asks us to dance before the music stops and the lights come on.

Is it last call already?

I don't think Airways offers anything in Phoenix but the east coast has always made money when the economy is doing well. That unfortunatley is the mystery for a lot of us.
As for us and CO. I'm not sure there is an advantage now for the companies. With the ATI there is nothing they can't do now without merging. For the pilots I think a merge has the usual disadvantages but one big advantage is they would not be able to pit us against eachother.

Wow, that'd be great -- my two least favorite airlines combined into one craptacular company!

Maybe they can retrofit those miniature UAL Airbus overhead bins onto the whole combined fleet... :puke:

Regardless of who is involved, or which USAirways side goes to where......... Charlotte is going to make a great hub for someone- always will. I can see American, United, and Continental making a run for a hub in the southeast, which caters largely to the business flyer. Fortunately, the Charlotte area has done pretty well throught he recession, despite banking woes. Frankly, I think Charlotte will be USAirways saving grace.
