United SFO question

How long does it take to get to a widebody position in SFO. Do you have a lot of redeye flights once you get it. Thanks!

3 year freeze for new hires and no 757/767 slots for them until the end of next year, at the earliest, ostensibly means a 3 year wait. If you want SFO immediately, you need the Bus, no more -300 domiciles in SFO or LAX. SFO 767 flying is awful, lots of ANF, lots of low time Hawaii stuff that results in 75 hours/13 days off if you can hold a line, not international so no string of HDOs. Still better than LAX 767/Bus stuff which is nearly all ANF. Be aware that UAL is a place where guys bid HUGE on QOL, ESPECIALLY on the widebodies i.e.- you might hold 767 reserve somewhere in that 3 year span if they release the freeze (highly likely, in my opinion, to guys on property), and you would probably still have to wait 5 or 6 more years to hold a line, for what it's worth.

And why would you think that SFO 767 flying is "awful?" I'll be sure and think of that comment the next time I'm walking on the beach.

Sigh. He asked about redeyes. Unless you are super duper senior you aren't going to get the day flight from the islands, and that isn't going to fall into open time for a reserve. Hence, you will be doing ANF on the leg back to the mainland. Most of the transcons for the left coast flying have the ANF embedded in them. If you define redeyes as bad, then no other fleet has more of them than maybe LAX 76/Bus, which is why I brought up LAX. Hence, it is "awful" from that point of view of ANF. If your goal is to avoid redeyes, it's not a place to hang out. If your goal is to drink mai tais at Duke's while watching the sunset over Diamond Head, that's a completely different criteria.
