That's why WE (the line employees) need to make sure our combined company doesn't fall apart. Management doesn't give a crap about the operation as long as they get paid.
Well said.

P.s. RC-135 U/V/W? I flew "The Ball"

Same with S model, plus right wing painted a light absorbing black.

Yep. Otherwise the optics would be degraded from reflections off the wing. Did you ever fly the Cobra Eye (RC-135X)? I got a tour on it on Shemya back in '89 or '90. Wild stuff - cryogenically cooled optical sensor. Funny thing was that the project was paid for by the Army.

In case you'd like a copy of the RC-135S/X flight manual, you can get it here (black and white, color, or CD): http://www.eflightmanuals.com/detail/itemDetail.asp?mID=326
:D

Completely agree Andy. Spot on!

None of us line employees wanted this merger but we will have to live with it for the rest of our careers. Management was more than happy to merge because it meant big bonuses for them. Most of whom have moved on to other airlines to destroy.

I've had the pleasure of flying with a lot of great LCAL crews - pilots, FAs, CSRs, ground crews - as a LUAL furloughee so I know that we can work together to make this THE airline that everyone wants to fly on.
Have there been a few who don't like us LUAL furloughees? Sure. Just like there are some LUAL employees who don't like LCAL employees. We need to tear down that wall. It'll take a while but I know that there are a lot of great LCAL and LUAL employees who will be able to drown out those who will go through the rest of their careers bitter over the merger.

As long as this company doesn't fall apart, we have more than 400 pilots/yr retiring, ensuring that any furloughs for the next 20 years will be extremely limited.

No, but I got the tour of Shemya--two weeks at a time for a couple of years. Had to bring our own food. Fun.

Tourist..

I did the full year on "The Black Pearl of the Pacific". Lost a lot of brain cell in the Rocket :).

Thanks for the info everyone.

Can someone explain how Guam works. I've heard you get a $3,000 a month housing allowance. Do you also skip 1st year pay scale? (Rumor) How is it out in Guam? Is the $3,000 enough to find a nice place? Are you locked into the base for a certain time period? Do you need a car?

Thanks for the info

Yes on the $3,000.

You can opt for second year pay but it requires an 18 month commitment.

If you are single and only need a small place, the $3,000 should be enough (keeping in mind that after taxes, it won't be nearly $3,000). If you are bringing a family, need/want a house, etc., IMO the "after tax" $3,000 is not going to cover it. I am assuming full cost which would include utilities. Electricity for a house can easily run $300 plus a month. I have heard it can be that high for less efficient, smaller apartments.

You are not locked in unless you take the option for second year pay or opt for a paid move.

How is it in Guam? Most of the folks out here seem to like it and many have been here for years. It is tropical and quite humid most of the time. Keep in mind thought that Guam is a tiny island in the middle of the Pacific ocean. It takes nearly 8 hours just to get to HNL. And you will need a car if you end up out here.
