Found the jumpseater number and got listed. Anybody jumpseated out of KWI before? Should be interesting, but I'll give it a whirl.

I js'd to KWI back in Nov and the loads were great- plenty o room in Biz for the 11+30 flight over. Returning to IAD was another story....

Apparently the computer systems that the station uses have NOT been updated to reflect the current FOM policy of "unlimited jumpseats as long as there are available seats in the cabin". The station's Assistant Manager was a complete and pompous a$s who, without bothering to ask the Captain, told me that I had to go on a companion pass (luckily I was traveling with 2 UAL employees who had them available) or NOT GO AT ALL. He kept saying that the computer only allowed as many JS'ers as there are JS in the plane and that sinnce the flight was fully augmented (4 pilots) there was no more JSs to be had (even though there were 120+ OPEN seats in the cabin).

Rather than piss off this jacka$s (a temporary agent sent down to help open the station from AMS) and risk not getting on at all, I shelled out some cash to chill Biz on the way back and not hassle with the jumpseat!

Moral of the story- as always... have a Backup Plan to the backup plan to the plan. Most crews stay at the Sheration in KWI, so you might be able to catch the crew before they leave the hotel and maybe the CA will be helpful when it comes to dealing with the morons behind the counter. As with all UAL counter/cabin service- be ready for the gamut of service level. We had $hittty gate agents in IAD leaving but with an OUTSTANDING cabin crew, and then we had $hittiER gate/station service followed by mediocre-at-best cabin crew on the return leg. Good thing I didnt have high expectations....
