A female United captain p%%%$^ me off so bad the other day in Hartford,CT......

The flight attendant and I was on the shuttle to the airport. A United 737 cockpit crew was sitting in the back of the van. I asked the FO where they were going and he responded Chicago. A few seconds later the female captain (in her 40's) asked if I was flying an FRJ........I had no idea what she was talking about and asked if she could clarify a bit. Are you flying a **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED**ING RJ.......??

I was shocked by her comment........and this came from a female United captain who probably went from a C-172 to United in the early 90's.

Managed to get her name, employee number and base.

What, and female captains have the hold on being jerks?

Male captains can be just as rude. What does her sex have to do with her rudeness to you?

The correct answer to that:

"Why yes, I am. I've been in the RJ ever since United started assigning aircraft commensurate with breast size and bumped me back down."

Then run. :D

I think the best thing to do would be to just to thank God that you weren't the one stuck flying with her. There are a lot of people who are angry at the world...the best thing to do is ignore them.

swearing and or using the 'f' word may or may not be illegal in that state. It doesn't show maturity or tact and certainly doesn't reflect on our spiraling dive profession...but if you were in her/their shoes, you could probably relate.

Will it make you feel better if you 'report' her to her company? If so, I'd take the high road and contact professional standards at ALPA first. If that doesn't satisfy you, call the company. If that doesn't satisfy you, call a lawyer and sue for hurt feelings. Then contact the newspapers and let them know. Don't forget to call mommy.

In any case, whatever you do, it won't make a bit of difference. 'Feeder' airlines to majors have always been treated as second tier citizens...I've worked at two of them. Will attitudes like hers ever change? Probably...very slowly. Part of the problem is when you get to 'the majors' or fly the 'big jets', all of a sudden/ or over many years, you get the 'my sh#t don't stink attitude' and you totally forget what it was like at the regionals. (or whatever you want to call them these days)

just my .02

She is probally just jealous that she didnt get the chance to fly one!!! going from flight instructing in a 172 to UAL she missed all the fun times at the regional level. Its likes she missed out on college and had to go directly into the workforce. With the bad pay and all you will still miss the fun you had at the regionals, just like when in your in college, no money, bad schedules but its fun, make friends for life.

That's lame but what's the point of getting her name, emp. # and base?

What would the title to your post have been had the UAL captain been a man? "United male 737 captain......"???? Just curious.

You should have asked how her career at the E.E.O.C. was going? Then, you should have told her that you liked the "Mini Page" article that was done on her several years back and how it inspired you to marry a very religious, conservative woman who wanted a family instead of a job. Then, you should have said, "what will you do when your company goes tits up?" Then you should have said, "Hey, I heard that Stephen Wolfe is looking for a job..." Then, you should have brewed up a real nice, dank morning fart and laid in right in her lap.

But all you did was get her name, base and employee #.

Sincerely,

B. Franklin

A few thoughts and responses...

You could have responded:

1. Hey, you're in the 73 and I'm stuck in the "Barbie-Dream jet", why don't we just switch seats and call it even?

2. So,....I ah, guess dinner is out of the question?

3. Hey, I've been treated worse, by a lot better than you.

Just let it go!

If you guys work this out there is always the possibiltie of Make-up sex, but I doubt it!

Next use the word "gender"

Now I find myself struggling with impure thoughts on the sabbath. I feel so unclean!

I used the word gender once, and had to put up with a berating by PM from SkyGirl about my grammatical skills. Thus the word SEX.

SEX SEX SEX SEX. Feel better now Jeff? I think this will bring Hugh Jorgan out of the closet.

Told my captain about her classy comment and he obviously got really mad. He was the one that got her info......

We are all in the same boat trying to make a living so keep the nasty comments out of the work place. Be professional and show some respect.

Remember the 90's and the EEOC'S three-fourths rule: high school diplomas and 350 hours total flying time......

Hey, is it getting hot in here?

Well, you've got my attention.....hey, Hugh get away from me with that thing. You're scaring the sheep!

Why do you even give a sh*t about someones opinion who you don't even know.. SZhe cursed in front of you so curse back at her and it's done.. Or say some sh*t like ": I feel sorry for your husband"...

Exactly how are your comments indicative of respect on your part?

You are right I don't know, but I really doubt a person who has been working his/her way up from CFI, charter/cargo, regional to a major would say something like that.

I guess that's why you didn't get hired. No high school diploma. There's no way you have even that much education with a statement like you made in the thread starter:

"The flight attendant and I was on the shuttle to the airport."

You was, was you?

Sure, pilots "working their way up the ladder" (whatever ladder that is) would make these types of comments. I've heard major airline pilots from every category (representing every "group" you can imagine) make derogatory comments about regional airline pilots. Trust me, female United 737 captains don't hold the trademark on comments such as this.

Hugh's in the closet?

I would have thanked her for flying the 737 for welfare wages. Accepting that POS payscale as they did will make the prospect of having a good job at a major airline disappear for all. All the majors who aren't bankrupt are now expecting their pilots to work for those same pitiful rates "to stay competitive". Thanks again.

.

Cut Hugh some slack. I looked at his schedule and he is on vacation. But don't worry, I am sure he will access the ole Flightinfo board soon enough!

Oh, And I loved #2 a few posts back... "Uh, so I guess dinner is out of the question." That would have been hilarious!!!!!

If it ever happens again, just be nice on the way out and give her a good ole " C U Next Time"

See if that gets a dirty look.

Also works good when leaving a frequency with a bitchy controller not of the male sex.

Should have told her how good she looks in a man's uniform but that for some reason she appears to have a larger ' genital bulge ' than yourself and could she please explain why ?
