I understand that UAL had DC-8's still in service in the early 90's. When did retire from service? Also when did the Airbuses enter service?

I believe the last DC8 was retired in 92 and the first 320 was delivered in 93. I could be off by 1 year on both.

I think the last revenue flight for the DC-8 was in Nov 1991, HNL-SFO...A320's online in 1993

So what kind of seniority was needed to hold a DC-8 slot at the time? Was it a desired aircraft to fly or did people avoid it?

There still flying at ATI. I know a few were parked I think because of not wanting to do the D-checks.

ATI Pilot told me that the company put in a limitation prohibiting them from using reverse in flight, the reason , he said they were losing parts off the airplane.

So now if they have to get down, they just throw out the gear.

You know what they say, Boeing builds planes , Douglas builds pilots.
