The other thread pulled a FI routine with bickering and no facts. It's been 10 days, was the Captain's exercise of authority correct or early dementia as the last post suggested?

http://www.examiner.com/x-12585-Min...-diverts-to-Miami-due-to-crew-insubordination

Last week a United Airlines flight from Sao Paulo, Brazil to Chicago made an unscheduled stop in Miami when the Captain argued with a senior flight attendant and made the determination that the employee should be taken off of the flight. The flight attendant who was the flight’s purser, according to the Captain was not “respecting his authority” and it was determined that the matter could only be handled on the ground.
The Boeing 767, which was mid-way into the 11 hour flight when the diversion was announced, made a stop of just under an hour and continued onward with one less person on board. The flight arrived at O’Hare International Airport slightly more than one hour late.
United is conducting an internal investigation of the incident to ensure that the diversion was appropriate, while the unions representing the flight attendant, the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA and the Airline Pilots Association had no comment until they received further details. The financial cost of such a diversion was unknown but was sure to reach into many thousands of dollars.
