Why do United pilots refer to the 737 as the Guppy? I know this isn't a pressing question, but just interested.

What about the 747 pilots that refereed to the 777 as a light twin. I kind of think thats funny.

The 737 has also been called FLUF
The 757 the Barbie jet
The 777 bigfoot

I remember reading in Len Morgan's 'Boeing 727 Scrapbook' about the 737 being refered to as FLUF. Why? He went on, ask an airline pilot. So I asked a United pilot, he told me Fat Little Ugly ********************er.

I always thought the 737 was a good looking airplane though.

If I was walking out of a North Korean or Iranian prison, the 737 would be a good looking ariplane if it was flying me home. Other than that, I disagree. Do you have any other strange fetishes?

I always point out to the winglets on different jets to guys. On the 757, they look sleek, just another addition to a great looking slender bird. On the 747-400 they're small but still classy. On a G-IV, pure match. On Lears, they make it look faster (even though it isn't). Even on the 767-300 they seem to look pretty good,

...but winglets on a 737? Sorry, they look like stillettos on a fat chick. There is only so much an accessory can improve.

That being said, I dove right into that uncomfortable, noisy and ugly little "female dog" at my first chance at an upgrade.

You want to see ugly, look at an a319 and a320 from the side. Now that's homely.

Agree 150%

If you want to see the sad state of what aviation has become, drop native from the jungles of Brazil into the middle of CDG airport in Paris. Give a short course on the history of commercial air travel from the 1920's on,

After 2 minutes of looking at the masses of ugly arse Airbus jets waddling around looking like DC-4's with turbines, He'll look at that beautiful Concorde mounted on a stick and ask, "Wow! now that is better looking than any chick with a dinner plate in her lower lip, when does it start flying?" ;)
