Continental and United ready if others merge: sources
Monday April 14, 6:28 pm ET
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Continental Airlines (NYSE:CAL - News) and United Airlines (NasdaqGS:UAUA - News) have laid most of the groundwork for a merger, two people briefed on the matter said, and could have a deal ready "pretty quickly" if Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines announce a tie-up, one of them said.

Continental, which has said it would prefer to be independent unless the competitive landscape changes, plans to get back to the negotiating table with United if a merger between between Delta (NYSE:DAL - News) and Northwest (NYSE:NWA - News) is announced, both sources said.
Both the people requested not to be identified because of the confidential nature of the talks.
A Delta-Northwest merger proposal is expected to be announced late Monday or Tuesday.

Deja Vu

It seems like I've heard all this before.............

DAL & NWA boards meeting, announcment expected tomorrow, CAL & UAL talking, pilots certain to agree on a seniority integration............

Except it was colder outside then.

Would it be too much to expect the same outcome?

I feel sorry for the CAL guys out there. UAL is like the fat, ugly chick at the prom that nobody wants to dance with...

I guess the combo makes sense from a hub/route-structure standpoint - but CAL will be providing all of the growth going forward because UAL has ZERO growth prospects with no airplanes on order.

Does she swallow?

Did I say that? With my outside voice?

Sorry to offend, but the straight line was too good to pass up.
