Watch for CAL to have a really big loss. I suspect this is all part of the confabulation to entice the shareholders and lenders to eventually sign off on a merger. No proof, just my thoughts. Plus, since we are in contract negotiations, we won't be profitable most of the time to justify a crappy contract.

listening to UAL conf call now...so much BS...yeah I would tend to say merger is 2010-2011 timeframe especially cuz JAL is apparently choosing DAL.

You do realize CAL posted a 4th quarter profit, right?

Nope. I have to get out from under my rock. That is a real suprise considering the contract situation. Here's hoping for the best (not easy for a cynic like me to say!).

Kind of shoots that conspiracy down.

I hope you are right. It doesn't seem like much of a conspiracy given the prior attempt to merge, and how cozy we seem to be with UAL today under the auspices of Star Alliance.

"UAL said consolidated passenger revenue per available seat mile, a key airline measure, fell 5.2 percent in the fourth quarter, an improvement over the third quarter's 14.7 percent drop."

Somebody typed these words, right? You're still losing more revenue, but you're doing a better (excellent by executive standards) job by losing less than before?

Comparing quarter to quarter, not to previous quarter. (4th qt 2009 to 4th qt 2008, not 4th qt 2009 to 3rd qt 2009).
