Okay, our "senior 9 month fo's", who are around 98% in the company should be about 98% in a combined company. Your fo's who are at 98% should stay around 98% as well. Look, I don't see furloughs as a result of this possible merger anyway so we can all stop fighting over who is getting layed off. We should be fighting for a combined contract that pays well enough that we aren't fighting over widebody seats and commuting to each other's bases to begin with to fly them. Fences for a few years make sense as we ease into this deal but long term I think these things divide a pilot group. Any UAL pilot should be able(down the road) to have the chance to fly the 787's we are going to get as a combined airline just as much as current CAL pilots should have the opportunity to bid into a West Coast base of fly the 747 one day. Anything less is devisive and counterproductive to the overall cause.

I like the way you think. Hopefully if it comes to this, our respective groups can work together to improve everyone's career. Lets hope that cooler heads will prevail...

Sorry Andy-I rarely post as you can see but I must disagree here. If I'd wanted to fly out of any of CAL's garden spots, I would have applied there.

UAL pilots should get some consideration for the fact that CAL's bases are generally undesireable (understatement) while UAL's are where people want to live.

Relative seniority would not protect us from the CAL hoards coming West. High fences will.

I haven't posted in a while, but couldn't help with the ignorance of this post. Dude, you are a friggin' clown. What makes you the master of of what is "undesirable" huh? You have 0% authority on which city is better to live in - each domicile fits a specific person differently. I can tell you living in DC is horrible as well - terrible crime rates, horrible traffic and the price of living/quality of life is in the sh*tter. Oh, and LAX and SFO? Yeah, I'd love to live there...not! I don't think I feel like spending 700K on a shack and getting harrased every time I step out the door in my flight suit to go to my military job. I'll take Houston any day over some of your United "undesirable" domiciles. But hey, that's just me huh?

And there is a reason why we have a lot of 9 month F/O's vs. United. Thats because WE'VE been hiring the last few years - and United hasn't. While United has hemmoraged money like an open drain, Continental has been making money. Funny how that works huh?

You know what, I think you're right - UAL should get some special consideration. It should consider how haenious it's doing financially (relative to CAL). I can't think of many worse run companies than UAL, besides US Air or Mesa. Talk about pissing money away, and posting losses...

Andy - in all fairness I think you're a good dude with a good head on your shoulders. If we do have to merge (please god, no), United and Continental are probably the best fit...and with guys like you the merger probably could succeed in all fairness to both carriers' pilots. It's clowns like this leftcoast idiot that sour the waters. CAL is a good airline with a good product and we're right in the middle of contract negotiations for a new contract...on the other end of the spectrum from where UAL resides currently.

If leftcoast wants to have fences - I say please construct them to your heart's content. Just please do it away from me...I'd like to ensure my money making airline is "fenced" up completely away from your money losing one.

you are a tool, a spaz, and a moron. saber drill or honor guard? or "gaming" club?

Whatever happens, we cannot allow ourselves to become divided if we merge as that will play right into managements hands.

We must work together to focus on the protection of all our careers.
